  • Patent number: 9653838
Abstract: A debris exclusion and removal apparatus for connectors which have retractable cover configurations which include internal wafers that clean the connectors prior to mating.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 22, 2016
Date of Patent: May 16, 2017
Assignee: The United States of America as Represented by the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration

  • Patent number: 9647379
Abstract: A debris exclusion and removal apparatus for connectors which have a dual-poppet value configuration containing a pressurized substance. Coupling of the female and male connectors causes the poppet valve to eject a cleaning substance which will eliminate debris from the male connector prior to mating with the female connector.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 21, 2016
Date of Patent: May 9, 2017
Assignee: The United States of America as Represented by the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Inventors: Ivan I. Townsend, III, Robert P. Mueller, Gary L. Bastin, Jeffrey W. Carlson, Kevin A. Murtland

  • Patent number: 9431778
Abstract: Methods and systems may provide for debris exclusion and removal apparatuses for connectors which have inverting end caps with a multi-axis lever configuration, inverting end caps with enlarged handle and/or side rail configurations, rotating end cap configurations, poppet valve configurations, O-ring configurations, filament barrier configurations, retractable cover configurations, clamshell end cap configurations, or any combination thereof. Apparatuses may also provide for an intelligent electrical connector system capable of detecting damage to or faults within a plurality of conductors and then rerouting the energy through a non-damaged spare conductor.
