Patent number: 11850634Abstract: A method for rinsing an overflow chamber at the bath-side end of a snout of a device for hot-dip coating a metal strip is presented. The snout guides the metal strip in a protective gas atmosphere before the metal strip is coated with a metal melt. A rinsing cycle is carried out in the overflow chamber of the snout by feeding metal melt from the molten bath into the overflow chamber and at the same time, sucking and pumping said melt out of the overflow chamber back into the molten bath. This rinsing cycle can be performed even when the snout has been retracted from the melt by supplying the melt from the molten bath to the overflow chamber with a delivery pump.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2019Date of Patent: December 26, 2023Assignees: SMS group GmbH, Fa. SeverstalInventors: Lutz Kümmel, Jegor Bergen, Jean-Pierre Crutzen, Otto Schanderl

Patent number: 10520013Abstract: A roller may be used to deflect or guide a metal strip to be coated in a metal melt bath. The roller may comprise a steel roller shell and steel bearing journals that are connected to the roller shell and arranged coaxially to each other for a rotary supporting of the roller. Disposed on each bearing journal may be a substantially cylindrical or circular disk-shaped connection portion that is made of steel and that extends radially in a direction of the roller shell. At least one of the connection portions may have at least one through opening that emerges at an end face of the roller shell. Further, a filling made of one or more filling elements that have at least one closed cavity may be arranged in the roller shell. The filling may have a structure that is symmetrical about an axis of rotation of the roller.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2016Date of Patent: December 31, 2019Assignees: THYSSENKRUPP STEEL EUROPE AG, THYSSENKRUPP AGInventors: Jegor Bergen, Martin Norden, Florian Spelz

Patent number: 10081857Abstract: A metallic flat product is disclosed which is subjected to surface finishing by hot-dip coating and which is preferably composed of steel. The metallic flat product includes a metallic alloy layer (11) and a metallic surface layer (12?), which metallic alloy layer and metallic surface layer differ from one another in terms of their chemical composition. The two layers (11, 12?) are produced in a one process step and define a continuous transition region (13) in which a mixture of the two different chemical compositions is present. The metallic alloy layer (11) has a thickness of less than 8 ?m, preferably less than 6 ?m, and the surface layer (12?) is formed from aluminum or zinc. The flat product has an improved coating, by means of which the flat product more effectively satisfies the requirements with regard to good deformability and has good anti-corrosion protection.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2014Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Assignee: ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AGInventors: Jegor Bergen, Frank Spelleken, Michael Peters, Manuela Ruthenberg, Friedhelm Macherey, Florian Spelz

Patent number: 9670573Abstract: A method for the hot-dip coating of metal strip, in particular steel strip, in a metallic melting bath (3) is disclosed. In the method, the metal strip (1) to be coated is heated in a continuous furnace (2) and is introduced into the melting bath (3) through a snout (6) which is connected to the continuous furnace and which is immersed into the melting bath. To be able to satisfy the requirements placed on the coated strip (1) with regard to good deformability of the strip, as far as possible without cracking and peeling, and with regard to high anti-corrosion protection in a more effective and reliable manner, the disclosure proposes that, in the region delimited by the snout (6), a melt is used which is intentionally implemented differently, in terms of its chemical composition, than the chemical composition of the melt used in the melting bath (3).Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2014Date of Patent: June 6, 2017Assignee: ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AGInventors: Jegor Bergen, Frank Spelleken, Michael Peters, Manuela Ruthenberg, Friedhelm Macherey, Florian Spelz

Patent number: 9453275Abstract: An apparatus for hot dip coating metal strip is disclosed having a dip bath vessel (4), a snout (6) which opens into the dip bath vessel for introducing a metal strip (1) which is heated in a continuous furnace into the dip bath, and a deflecting roller (7) which is arranged in the dip bath vessel for deflecting the metal strip (1) which enters into the dip bath in a direction which points out of the dip bath. The snout (6) is provided with a shaft-shaped snout extension piece (6.1) for increasing the snout dipping depth, the internal width of the snout extension piece (6.1) tapering toward its outlet opening (6.15) at least over a part length of said snout extension piece (6.1). As a result, an increase or maximization of the eddy flow in the molten metal at or close to the metal strip (1) and therefore improved homogenization of the molten metal in the region of the strip is achieved, as a result of which slag-induced surface defects on the surface of the coated metal strip (1) can be avoided.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 2014Date of Patent: September 27, 2016Assignee: ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AGInventors: Jegor Bergen, Frank Spelleken, Michael Peters, Manuele Ruthenberg, Friedhelm Macherey, Florian Spelz
