Abstract: A mobile terminal and controlling method thereof are disclosed, which is suitable for providing visual effect in accordance with a shift of a pointer in a mobile terminal capable of displaying a stereoscopic 3D image and controlling functions of the mobile terminal. The present invention includes displaying at least one selection target object having a predetermined 3D depth given thereto on a display unit including a binocular disparity generating means, detecting a distance and position of a pointer from the mobile terminal via a detecting unit, controlling a prescribed visual effect to be displayed on the display unit in response to the detected distance and position of the pointer, and if the distance of the pointer is equal to or smaller than a 1st threshold and a specific selection target object is present at the position, activating a function corresponding to the specific selection target object.
