  • Patent number: 8877999
Abstract: A disposable absorbent product includes a backsheet, a topsheet overlaying the backsheet, and a core disposed between the backsheet and topsheet for retaining fluid secreted by a wearer of the absorbent product. The core has a length dimension, a width dimension, and a thickness dimension orthogonal to the length and width dimensions. The core includes first and second fluid storage structures, with the first fluid storage structure at least partially surrounding the second fluid storage structure in the thickness dimension. The second fluid storage structure extends along a longitudinal axis and has a head portion, as well as a pair of leg portions, with the leg portions being longitudinally opposed the head portion. Each of the leg portions extends along a minor axis that defines, with the longitudinal axis, an acute included angle.

  • Patent number: 8702670
Abstract: Controlled expansion of an intravaginal device can be achieved by selectively attaching either a primary or secondary cover to the primary absorbent device having a fluid storage element. We can determine that certain portions of the tampon will expand while other portions will be restricted to substantially the compressed structure. The primary cover can be attached to the primary absorbent device either before or after the absorbent device is compressed into final tampon form. The compression may be in the axial or radial direction or a combination of both directions. The secondary cover, if used, can be attached after the tampon pledget has been compressed into the final tampon form.

  • Patent number: 8546642
Abstract: An absorbent article, such as a sanitary napkin, includes a top sheet and a back sheet with a resilient, composite absorbent core sandwiched therebetween. To decrease the stiffness, the absorbent core includes an outer line and an inner line on each side of a longitudinal centerline. The outer line includes a plurality of slits having spaces therebetween, and the outer line extends convexly when viewed from the longitudinal centerline. The plurality of slits in the absorbent core impart better bending ability of the absorbent article, particular for stiff airlaid absorbent cores.

  • Publication number: 20110184366
Abstract: An absorbent article with improved integrity and durability includes a back sheet, a top sheet, and an absorbent core therebetween. The absorbent core passes a tumbling test for products having a total absorption capacity of between 260 g and 800 g, and passes a core resiliency test such that the article has a thickness when compressed laterally and released of less than 7 mm for an article having a total absorption capacity of 260-399 g and 11 mm for an article having a total absorption capacity of 400 g to 800 g. The absorbent core may be airlaid and include two or more layers made from pulp, superabsorbent polymer and/or bicomponent fibers. The various layers and materials create a complex shape retention network. As such, an improved liquid handling structure is created that distributes liquid evenly while maintaining its shape/thinness.
