  • Patent number: 7437862
Abstract: An inserting machine with an assembly (7) for unfolding a flap (8) of an envelope (9), including: a scraper (20) with a sharp scraping end (21) and an envelope carrier (23-26) as well as a drive (27, 29) for moving the holder portion (18) and the scraper (20) relative to each other, such that the holder portion (18) with the fold edge (17) in trailing position scrapes along the scraping end (21), the scraper (20) scrapes the flap (8) in the area of its free edge (19) off the holder portion (18), and pivots the flap (8) open about the fold edge (17). The scraping end (21) moves along a circulation path (30), of which a first portion (31) extends in a direction towards the fold edge (17) over the holder portion (18) of the envelope (9) and of which a second, contiguous portion (32) diverges from the holder portion (18) of the envelope (9).

  • Patent number: 6439566
Abstract: Sheet feeder comprising a holder with a guide for guiding a stack of sheets and with an abutment structure which defines an abutment plane for keeping a stack of sheets in a position with an outer sheet positioned against the abutment plane. The abutment structure is provided with a slit for allowing a sheet or a set of sheets to pass therethrough, which slit is movable relative to the guide along the abutment plane, with a directional component transverse to the slit for peeling outer sheets abutting against the abutment structure off a stack of sheets in the holder. Further, a method for separating sheets from a stack is described. Because sheets are peeled off a stack without sliding relative to each other, they can be separated without hindrance due to friction between them.

  • Patent number: 6338479
Abstract: In the in-line processing of flat objects (S1-S7), the flat objects (S1-S7) are fed from a device (4) and serially transferred to a downstream system (5). In the system (5) the objects (S1-S7) are transported and, if necessary, temporarily collected. The temporary collection of specimens of the objects (S1-S7) occurs in a configuration with a pitch in the direction of transport which is smaller than the dimensions in the direction of transport of the objects (S1-S7) in question. Then collected objects (S1-S7) are moved away from each other, from that configuration, and further transported with mutual interspaces. Because the flat objects (S1-S7) are stored with a pitch less than the size in the direction of transport, a large number of objects (S1-S7) can be collected in a buffer portion (34, 35; 134; 234) of a small length. Because the objects (S1-S7) are stored with a pitch in the direction of transport, however, they can be readily moved away from each other.

  • Patent number: 6332607
Abstract: For individually separating outer sheets (9, 109) of a stack (6, 106) in a holder (1, 101), in each case in the area of an outer sheet or an outer set of sheets a suction is generated for sucking at least a portion of an outer sheet or set of sheets (9, 109) from an initial position, away from the stack, to a discharge position. From that discharge position a sheet or set of sheets is discharged away from the stack (6, 106) by a discharge structure engaging the sheet or set of sheets. The suction assembly (12, 112, 212) in each case generates a pulsed suction in a position spaced from the initial position. As a result, the sheets or sets of sheets can be reliably displaced one by one to the discharge position, while the intended operation of the apparatus is little sensitive to the suction strength set.

  • Patent number: 6178750
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for the conversion of low-grade heat into mechanical energy, in particular electricity. To this end a working medium is heated in a closed circulation system causing the working medium to expand. The expansion produces mechanical energy. The heat remaining in the working medium is abstracted by a cooling medium in counterflow, to be reutilized for the production of mechanical energy. This makes its possible to achieve a high degree of efficiently. Due to cooling the working medium contracts and this contributes to the achievement of a high degree of efficiency. The working medium is preferably a paraffine.

  • Patent number: 5983609
Abstract: An envelope (23) to be opened is moved along a tangent line to a rotating circular cutting edge (2), with the cutting edge (2) making an incision in a wall of the envelope (23). The envelope (23) is moved at a predetermined speed of transport which is different from the speed of revolution of the cutting edge (2). The cutting edge (2) moves in longitudinal direction along the material to be incised, so that a better cutting action is obtained. Each part of the material to be incised comes into contact with a large part of the cutting edge (2). As a result, the cutting action and the depth of incision are little affected by unroundness and eccentricity of the cutting edge (2). The cutting edge (2) wears uniformly because parts of the cutting edge (2) wear faster according as they project further from the axis of rotation (3). Also disclosed is an apparatus for practising this method.

  • Patent number: 5904255
Abstract: Apparatus, method and modules for sorting flat objects. The apparatus comprises a number of sorting holders, a conveying system with a switch and branches connecting thereto, a reading unit, and an object separator for feeding, one by one, stacked objects to the conveying system for recirculation. Because in operation, during the feed from the sorting holders, the objects are separated and individually recirculated from the sorting holders to the switch, this can be controlled in a simple manner and carried out with simple, compact conveying means. The apparatus can be modularly constructed from a basic module with a sorting holder and one or more sorting modules also with a sorting holder and a recirculation path.
