  • Patent number: 11029139
Abstract: A procedure is provided for evaluating the score, snap and edge appearance of wallboard panels, and includes scoring a wallboard panel with a knife at a constant and known force using a benchtop board scoring device; snapping the scored panel in a Universal Board Testing Machine to measure the breaking force, forming a snapped panel edge; measuring a cleanliness of the snapped panel edge by placing a straight edge against the snapped panel edge and measuring gaps between the snapped panel edge and the straight edge in a plurality of locations on a face of the panel, and a plurality of locations on a back of the panel; and averaging all of the measured gaps to create an Index Score.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 4, 2019
Date of Patent: June 8, 2021
    Assignee: UNITED STATES GYPSUM COMPANY
Inventors: Jerry D. Wonderlich, John A. Koch, Charles W. Cochran, Tim Lucas, Jenner Omodt
  • Patent number: 10844595
Abstract: Embodiments of a system and a method for manufacturing a cementitious panel can be used to produce a cementitious panel having a multi-layer air/water barrier membrane assembly. The layers of the membrane can be built up via a series of applicator stations applying a fluid composition using roll coating, for example. Between applicator stations the applied layer of fluid composition can be subjected to drying conditions via infrared heating. To help protect from the deleterious effects of infrared heating, the cementitious panel can be conveyed through a cooling tunnel after each drying section.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 5, 2018
Date of Patent: November 24, 2020
    Assignee: United States Gypsum Company
Inventors: Jeffrey William Donelan, Steven Richmond, Chris C. Lee, Michael P. Shake, Jenner Omodt, Serguei Zelepouga, Yanfei Peng

  • Patent number: 10309771
Abstract: Embodiments of a system and a method for determining a surface smoothness of a facing specimen can be used in connection with the manufacture of products, including cementitious products such as gypsum wallboard, for example. Such systems and methods can be used to generate a composite smoothness factor based upon a measured mottle value and topography value using stochastic frequency distribution analysis.

Date of Patent: June 4, 2019
    Assignee: United States Gypsum Company
Inventors: Jenner Omodt, Alfred C. Li, Michael P. Shake, Weixin D. Song
