Publication number: 20120015647Abstract: A method and system for determining standby time for a mobile station uses a battery simulator, a base station emulator, a computer to control the test equipment and MSUT for testing a mobile station. The computer includes a module for determining a radio off battery voltage, a module for deriving a battery capacity in dependence upon the radio off battery voltage, a module for measuring battery capacity usage in a predetermined time while the mobile station is in standby mode and a module for determining a standby time for the mobile station in dependence upon the battery capacity and the battery capacity usage, where the predetermined time is less than the standby time.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 26, 2011Publication date: January 19, 2012Applicant: RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITEDInventors: Xin JIN, Jennifer MALLALIEU, Fiona SHEARER

Patent number: 7912463Abstract: The application relates to wireless networks and more particularly to a method of reducing factory test time of receiver sensitivity in a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wireless device. Under TIA/EIA/-98E, the radio frequency (RF) sensitivity of a CDMA wireless receiver is the minimum received power, measured at the mobile station antenna connector, at which the frame error rate (FER) does not exceed 0.5% with 95% confidence. In order to reduce the test time of FER test method, the relation between correlated energy (or Ec/Io) and FER is determined using simulated traffic and the correlated energy (or Ec/Io) measurement is then used as the test parameter on like models to achieve the same or superior test confidence with significantly reduced test time.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2009Date of Patent: March 22, 2011Assignee: Research In Motion LimitedInventors: Xin Jin, Jennifer Mallalieu, Qingzhong Jiao, Ronald Bruce Harding
