Patent number: 10179387Abstract: A power tool including a housing with an electric motor in the housing. The motor has a stator and an armature, the stator having field coils and the armature having an armature shaft on which a commutator is affixed. A pair of brush boxes are located in the housing on opposite sides of the commutator. An orbit mechanism coupled to the armature shaft and a platen is coupled to the orbit mechanism. The field coils comprise a first field coil facing a front of the sander and a second field coil facing a rear of the sander and the brush boxes are rotationally offset from the field coils with respect to a vertical axis of the sander.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2013Date of Patent: January 15, 2019Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Jason McRoberts, Terry L. Turner, Jennifer A. Resh, Timothy W. French, Jr.

Patent number: 8435097Abstract: A reduced height quarter sheet sander has a housing having first and second halves mated together. An upper portion of the housing provides a handle. A pair of brush boxes is disposed in the housing on opposite sides of a commutator of an electric motor disposed in the housing. In an aspect, a switch disposed in the handle of the housing and a terminal block (at which a cordset that enters the housing terminates) disposed in the handle of the housing have generally the same horizontal elevation as the brush boxes (when the sander is lying upright). In an aspect, the stator is disposed in the housing so that the field coils extend across the housing from one half to the other half and outside the lower screw bosses.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2012Date of Patent: May 7, 2013Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Jason McRoberts, Terry L. Turner, Jennifer A. Resh, Timothy W. French, Jr.

Patent number: 7963195Abstract: A powered ratchet tool generally includes a housing having a handle portion with a trigger assembly. A motor has an output shaft member that rotates about a longitudinal axis. A ratchet assembly includes a ratchet hub member that connects to the output shaft member. A selector member connects to the ratchet assembly and is operable to change the ratchet assembly between a tighten condition and a loosen condition. A drive member is connected to the ratchet assembly. The drive member rotates about the longitudinal axis about which the ratchet hub member, the selector member and the output shaft member rotates.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2008Date of Patent: June 21, 2011Assignee: Black & Decker Inc.Inventors: Jason McRoberts, Terry Turner, Jennifer Resh

Publication number: 20080017537Abstract: An accessory case includes a pair of molded matable sections with each defining a peripheral ridge about a body region for mating with the other section of the pair. One of the matable sections defines an interior pocket for releasably retaining an optional accessory magnet. The magnet may be disc shaped or formed as an elongate ruler. A reusable writing surface is optionally retained by a body region of one of the pair of molded matable sections. The writing surface and instrument may be a dry erase board and marker, a chalk board and chalk, or a note pad and pen or pencil.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 8, 2006Publication date: January 24, 2008Inventors: Matthew Inskeep, Michele Krum, Jennifer Resh, Charon Yeung
