    Abstract: A transmission method and corresponding mobile communication system are described. A mobile terminal transmits information via an access channel to a base station that quantizes the received symbols and forwards these via a forward path to a central baseband unit. In the central baseband unit soft information relating to the transmitted information is determined based on received forwarded symbols, a quantizer codebook and the deployed mapping of the mobile terminal. Said soft information may serve as a basis for decoding the information.
