  • Patent number: 10525793
Abstract: A method and a system (20) for transmitting heat for a vehicle (10) are described. In this case, the waste heat which is contained in the exhaust gas (3) of the vehicle (10) is stored in a heat accumulator (1) of the vehicle (10). The thermal energy stored in the heat accumulator (1) is conducted to at least one heat sink (11-16). The heat accumulator (1) can be thermally coupled to the at least one heat sink (11-16) and uncoupled therefrom. In the coupled state the amount of heat per time unit that is conducted to the at least one heat sink is set.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 18, 2013
Date of Patent: January 7, 2020
    Assignee: Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft
    Inventors: Christoph Käppner, Jens Drückhammer

  • Patent number: 6632764
Abstract: An NOx concentration in exhaust gas is measured downstream of an NOx storage converter. For determining an operating state, particularly damage to the NOx storage converter, when the NOx storage converter switches from an absorption mode to a regeneration mode, the values of characteristic features of an NOx desorption peak in the time curve of the NOx concentration are ascertained and compared to predetermined test patterns, with a comparison result being formed, from which a converter-state signal that characterizes the operating state of the NOx converter is determined.

  • Patent number: 6499291
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for monitoring the operation of a NOx storage catalytic converter in the exhaust stream of an internal combustion engine. The NOx content of the gas stream upstream and downstream of the catalytic converter is measured and used to determine storage efficiency. This is compared to a threshold value, and if the threshold value is not met a regeneration process is performed. The storage value is measured after regeneration to determine if the catalytic converter is faulty.

  • Publication number: 20020128146
Abstract: The invention lies in a method and an apparatus for controlling the regeneration of an NOx, storage converter disposed in the exhaust-gas system of an internal-combustion engine and can be operated in an absorption mode and a regeneration mode, with operating parameters of the internal-combustion engine being changed as a function of the operating state of the NOx storage converter. The NOx concentration in the exhaust gas is measured downstream of the NOx storage converter. For determining the operating state, particularly damage to the NOx storage converter, when the NOx storage converter switches from the absorption mode to the regeneration mode, the values of characteristic features of an NOx desorption peak in the time curve of the NOx concentration are ascertained and compared to predetermined test patterns, with a comparison result being formed, from which a converter-state signal that characterizes the operating state of the NOx converter is determined.

  • Patent number: 5195498
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method of checking the tightness of a tank-venting apparatus for a motor vehicle having a fuel tank and an internal combustion engine including a lambda controller and an air intake pipe. The tank-venting apparatus includes an adsorption filter, a supply line interconnecting the adsorption filter and the fuel tank, a connecting line interconnecting the adsorption filter and the intake pipe and a tank-venting valve mounted in the connecting line between the adsorption filter and the intake pipe. The method includes the steps of: measuring the pressure difference between pressure in the tank and ambient pressure; when the tank-venting valve is opened, determining whether the pressure difference increases above a threshold value and whether a lean correction by the lambda controller is required; and, drawing the conclusion that the tank-venting apparatus leaks when neither a lean correction is determined nor the pressure difference exceeds the threshold value.
