  • Patent number: 5218859
Abstract: The procedure for monitoring leakage of incompressible fluid includes introducing a predetermined volume of testing fluid into a conduit system at a pressure about the same as that at the source of the pressurized fluid during a testing period when no fluid is being withdrawn from the conduit system and flow from the fluid source is blocked and measuring the time required for the predetermined volume to flow into the conduit system. The apparatus includes a cylinder connected in parallel with the main valve between the source and the conduit system, a movable wall in the cylinder to divide it into two chambers and a spring in the chamber for urging the wall from the conduit system side chamber together with control apparatus for sensing the volume of the last mentioned chamber decreasing to a preselected volume. The control apparatus also includes mechanism for opening and closing the main valve and monitors large and/or small leakage occurrences.

  • Patent number: 5062442
Abstract: The apparatus functions for monitoring small leakages in order to activate an alarm in the event that there has been more than a predetermined volume of small leakage through the water taps or other part of the system and to automatically turn off a main valve if flow continues therethrough more than a predetermined time and will allow the main valve to open if the discharge of fluid is temporary stopped. The system includes a main valve having a valve seat and a shunt circuit that bridges the valve seat. The shunt circuit includes a volume flow meter and a shunt valve for blocking fluid flow through the circuit. The main valve opens only when the volume in the shunt path exceeds a predetermined value. The shunt circuit includes a throttle that when fluid flows therethrough, provides a pressure drop in the shunt circuit which results in the main valve diaphragm opening when the shunt circuit predetermined value is exceeded.

  • Patent number: 5046519
Abstract: The method and apparatus is directed to monitoring a fluid conduit system for leaks, particularly a leakage flow of less than 25 liters per hour. After closing a main valve that fluidly connects a fluid source to the conduit system, the time is measured for the pressure in the conduit system to drop to a predetermined first value. Upon reaching the first value a shunt valve is opened and the time is measured for the pressure to rise to a second predetermined value. The leakage flow is calculated from the two measured times and the two pressures together with known constants for the control system. In place of providing the shunt valve the main valve may be partially opened. Controls for the valves are provided together with evaluating apparatus for determining the leakage volume.

  • Patent number: 4940538
Abstract: An inlet nipple and a housing having a water passage extending therethrough that have first, second and third water bore portions of progressively larger diameters in a downstream direction. A variable throttle point is formed by a fixed member and a movable member acting in conjunction with the bore portions that produce a turbulent flow causing cavitation downstream of the throttle point independently of the quantity of flow. In one embodiment the movable member includes a closure portion seatable against a seat formed at the intersection of the bore portion and an annular portion that in conjunction with a bore portion forms an annular water flow space downstream of the closure portion. In the second embodiment the fixed member has a closure portion converging toward an aperture in the movable member which is in the shape of a cup.

  • Patent number: 4760699
Abstract: The invention relates to a thermal servomotor which includes two operating elements which act oppositely on an actuating bridge. The operating elements are thermally insulated from each other and each has a temperature-dependent filling and a separate heating element for differently thermally influencing the two fillings.

  • Patent number: 4535590
Abstract: The invention relates to a thermal servomotor which includes two operating elements particularly bellows boxes, which act oppositely on a valve actuating bridge. Each operating element has a temperature-dependent filling. Each operating element is connected to a relatively small container having a volume on the order of 0.2 cm.sup.3 by a capillary passage which has the effect of partially thermally insulating each operating element from the associated container. Each container contains the medium of the filling that determines the pressure and separate heating apparatus is associated with each of the two containers.

  • Patent number: 4527595
Abstract: The invention relates to a flow regulator in which a diaphragm of elastically deformable material is disposed between a pressure chamber at supply pressure and an end face of a base member having open radially extending grooves. A supply passage extends from the regulator inlet circumferentially around the diaphragm into fluid communication with the grooves and a discharge passage is axially disposed in the base member in fluid communication with the radially inward ends of the grooves. Pressure variations in the supply passage cause the diaphragm to cover varying lengths of the grooves to vary the throttling effects of the grooves. The regulator is adapted for different ranges of flow quantities by providing two or more grooves in the face of the base member and by providing valving apparatus for selectively connecting one or more of the grooves to the supply passage.
