Abstract: Licensing information that guides the operation of a software application may be stored in operating system-independent storage of a device on which the software application is installed. The operating system-independent storage may be independent of the device's file system and may include storage that is implemented as part of a chipset of the device. The licensing information may be written to the device's operating system-independent storage by a remote device over a communications network regardless of the state of the device. The licensing information may be subsequently accessed by the software application to determine whether functionality requested by a user of the application is supported by the licensing information.
