Abstract: The present invention provides fuels for combustion engines of the diesel type and petrol type and especially to fuels having an increased content of fuel components originating from renewable sources. In particular, diesel type fuels are provided, which contain at least solketal, renewable alkane fuel and biodiesel. Petrol fuels are also provided, wherein solketal is provided as a substitute for fossil petrol or other petrol fuel components. The present invention further provides methods for manufacturing the fuels of the invention as well as uses thereof.

Abstract: Amphiphilic graft copolymers are prepared by grafting a pre-formed graft base polymer comprising at least 5% by weight of units of formula (I) where R1 and R2 are independently H or C1 to C6 alkyl groups. The monomer grafted to the pre-formed graft base polymer is at least one of styrene or a C1 to C2 alkylstyrene, and optionally other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers. At least 5 mole % of the groups are cleaved from the grafted copolymer thus formed.

Abstract: A process for preparing addition polymers which contain carbamate units comprises reacting polyethyleneimines or addition polymers which contain vinylamine units of the formula where R1 is hydrogen or C1-C6-alkyl, with haloformic esters, the carbamate-functionalized polyethyleneimine or vinylamine polymers thus obtainable being useful as retention, drainage and flocculation aids and as fixatives in papermaking, as protective colloids for the preparation of aqueous alkyldiketene dispersions and as dispersants for the preparation of aqueous filler slurries.

Abstract: Partially hydrolyzed polymers of N-vinylcarboxamides obtainable by sole polymerization of N-vinylcarboxamides of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each hydrogen or C.sub.1 - to C.sub.6 -alkyl, and elimination from the polymers of from 0.5 to 95 mol % of the groups of the formula ##STR2## where R.sup.1 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 - to C.sub.6 -alkyl, can be used as paper, paperboard and cardboard dry strength enhancers.

Abstract: Polymers containing .beta.-hydroxyalkylvinylamine units, which are obtainable by reacting polymers containing vinylamine units with epoxides of the formula ##STR1## where R=C.sub.2 -C.sub.28 -alkyl, phenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 -alkylphenyl or C.sub.2 -C.sub.18 -alkenyl, are described, as are a process for preparing the polymers and use of the polymers as retention and drainage aids and flocculants and as fixatives in paper making, as protective colloid for producing alkyldiketene dispersions or alkenylsuccinic anhydride dispersions, as emulsifier for producing aqueous filler suspensions and as corrosion inhibitor.
