  • Patent number: 8552964
Abstract: A plurality of point-light sources emits light, based on an image displayed on a display panel. A substrate has the point-light sources disposed thereon. A power-controlling section provides the point-light sources with first driving current having a pulse current with a pulse modulation duty less than or equal to a maximum pulse modulation duty cycle and a first amplitude in accordance with a normal image. A power-controlling section provides the point-light sources with second driving current having a pulse current with the maximum pulse modulation duty cycle and first boosting amplitude greater than the first amplitude in accordance with a high luminance image. Thus, the quantity of emitted light of the point-light sources may be adjusted in accordance with the position of an image displayed in a display panel, and the point-light sources that correspond to high luminance images may be boosted up.

  • Publication number: 20090262065
Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal panel having display blocks arranged in a first matrix thereon, and light-emitting blocks which provide light to the liquid crystal panel. Each of the light-emitting blocks corresponds to a corresponding column of the first matrix and provides the light to a corresponding column of display blocks in the corresponding column of the first matrix. A frame during which an image is displayed on the liquid crystal display is divided into time slots, and a number of the time slots is equal to a number of the corresponding display blocks included in each column of the first matrix. A luminance of the light provided by each of the light-emitting blocks during each time slot of the frame is controlled based on an image data signal supplied to the corresponding column of the first matrix.

  • Publication number: 20090146159
Abstract: A light-emitting device includes a substrate on which at least one light source region is defined, the light source region having one or more sub-light source regions that are separated from one another by a gap, a plurality of electrode patterns which are respectively formed in the sub-light source regions, a plurality of light-emitting chips which are respectively connected to the electrode patterns, and a plurality of passivations which respectively cover the light-emitting chips, wherein the passivations are separated from each other by the gap. The light-emitting device is thus capable of improving the mixing of light generated by light-emitting chips and the dissipation of heat generated by light-emitting chips.

  • Publication number: 20090135128
Abstract: In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, a backlight unit assembly is provided with a lamp and a light emitting diode (LED) periodically turned on and off, and a liquid crystal display having the backlight unit assembly. A light source is configured with both the lamp and the LED, and the LED is periodically turned on and off by applying a start signal, which are capable of removing image sticking on a liquid crystal display (LCD) panel. This feature may reduce power consumption and increase contrast ratio. The backlight unit assembly and the LCD are capable of adjusting a chromaticity coordinate of the light source to a reference chromaticity coordinate.
