Abstract: Disclosed are a display apparatus which displays contents and a method of controlling the same, the display apparatus including: a display unit; a user selection unit; a user interface generator which generates user interface information; an image processor; and a controller which controls the user interface generator to generate a guide image indicating a contents search mode on an edge of the display unit if performing a first operation to set up the contents search mode through the user selection unit, displays searched contents if performing a second operation to search contents while displaying the guide image, and controls the image processor to play selected contents if performing a third operation to select contents from searched contents.

Abstract: A display apparatus and a user interface display method of the display apparatus are provided. The display apparatus classifies menu items of a service menu or an OSD menu according to the frequency of use of the menu items, generates icons corresponding to the classified menu items, and displays the icons on a screen using a user interface. Accordingly, the user can display a user interface on the screen in a preferable manner, and easily find and utilize a desired menu item.

Abstract: A broadcast receiver and a method for processing a digital caption using the same. A broadcast receiver receives a broadcast signal containing digital caption information, searches for an explanation of terminology to be explained if terminology in the digital caption information is included in a list of terminology to be explained, and displays the explanation found for the terminology to be explained on a screen.

Abstract: There are provided a video processing apparatus, a video processing system, and an information providing method in the video processing apparatus. The video processing apparatus includes: a communication part performing communication with a service providing server providing broadcasting services; a video processing part performing video processing with respect to the broadcasting services; an output part outputting information on the broadcasting services; and a controller controlling the communication part, the output part and the video processing part to transmit user information and viewing information with respect to the video processing apparatus to the service providing server, to receive recommendation information based on the user information and the viewing information from the service providing server, and to output the received recommendation information, respectively.

Abstract: An on-screen-display (OSD) item displaying method and a display apparatus applying the OSD item displaying method. In the method an OSD menu containing a plurality of OSD items is displayed on an OSD menu display area, and when an event occurs, an event OSD item associated with the event may be displayed using the OSD menu display area and a content display area. Therefore, the display apparatus can selectively display the OSD menu on the content display area, which enables a user to more easily recognize important information.

Abstract: A method for providing a graphical user interface (GUI) and a broadcast receiving apparatus applying the same are provided. According to the method for providing a GUI in the broadcast receiving apparatus, a list of pieces of item information pertaining to an item selected from among a plurality of items is displayed, wherein the pieces of item information may be acquired through a network. Therefore, if a user selects a specific item, it is possible to automatically provide the user with a list of item information which pertains to the selected item and which may be acquired through a network.

Abstract: A method for providing a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for changing a reproducing time point, and an imaging apparatus incorporating the same are provided. The GUI for changing a reproducing time point displays reduction images of specific time points within a time period including a specific time point selected by a pointer, and changes the reproducing time point to the time point represented by the reduction image selected from the displayed reduction images. Accordingly, a user is able to search for a desired time point without going through a plurality of manipulations to change the reproducing time point on the progress bar using the pointer.

Abstract: A method for providing Graphical User Interface (GUI) for selecting a broadcast channel, and a broadcast receiving apparatus having the same are provided. The GUI for selecting a broadcast channel includes a keypad having a pointer to be moved by manipulation of a user on a remote control apparatus and keys selectable by the pointer, and then the user is able to input a preferred broadcast channel by using the keypad and the pointer. Accordingly, the user is able to input a preferred broadcast channel without using the number keys, so the number keys may be omitted in the remote control apparatus. As a result, miniaturization of the remote control apparatus is possible.

The method for providing a GUI for generating a list provides the GUI for generating a list to generate a list including desired items by using a pointer which is moved in a space by two-dimensional movement of the remote control apparatus by a user. Accordingly, even when using an image apparatus such as a TV receiving a command of a user by the input of the keys on the remote control, a user can generate a file list more easily.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus comprises a UI generating part to generate a first user interface including at least one UI menu item to select a function; a user input part to receive a user instruction to adjust a size of the UI menu item; and a controller to control the UI generating part to increase or decrease the size of the UI menu item of the first user interface depending on the user instruction, and display the UI menu item with the increased or decreased size.

The ODS apparatus includes: a memory module which stores a system program and data for a first region, where the data for the first region includes a plurality of first menu items; a screen which displays the first region; an input device which generates signals for displaying the first region on the screen; and a controller which divides the first region into a first sub-region and a second sub-region by using the system program, upon receipt of signals from an input device, and which displays the first sub-region and the second sub-region at different heights on the screen.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of controlling a display apparatus having a user input part to manipulate a user control menu including at least one control item. The method involves displaying the user control menu in a halftone when a user control function is selected via the user input part, and increasing a display tone of the control item by a predetermined level, which is pointed to on the user control menu via the user input part. Thus, the present invention provides a display apparatus and a control method thereof, in which a user can clearly recognize what selection is performed in a halftone user control menu.
