Patent number: 9263725Abstract: Provided are a secondary battery case and a method for manufacturing a secondary battery. The secondary battery case includes a can accommodating an electrode assembly and a top cap sealing an upper opening of the can. The top cap includes a top plate sealing the upper opening of the can, a filling hole passing through the top plate to fill an electrolyte into the can, and a protrusion protruding from the top plate on an upper portion of the filling hole. The protrusion is press-fitted into the filling hole to seal the filling hole. According to the present invention, the protrusion may protrude from the top plate. Thus, the protrusion may be press-fitted into the filling hole and thus broken to seal the filling hole. Therefore, the member for sealing the filling hole may be integrated with the top plate to reduce manufacturing costs and simplify a manufacturing process.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2014Date of Patent: February 16, 2016Assignee: LG CHEM, LTD.Inventors: Sin Young Park, Jeoung Soo Kim, Dong Sub Lee, Sang Bong Nam, Hang Seob Yoon, Hyang Mok Lee, Dong Hee Seo, Hyun Kyung Ko, Sang Jin Woo

Patent number: 6761996Abstract: The invention is a lithium secondary battery that prevents electrolyte and internal gas leakage by durably sealing the electrolyte injecting hole. The lithium secondary battery consists of a battery can, which contains a polar plate set with an anode plate, and a separator inserted and installed inside the battery can. The opening of the battery can has a cap assembly with an electrolyte injecting hole so that the can interior can be sealed. To seal the battery can, a rivet shaped sealing member is inserted in the electrolyte injecting hole. The sealing member is placed in contact with the cap assembly at an area surrounding the electrolyte injecting hole and affixed to the cap assembly.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2000Date of Patent: July 13, 2004Assignee: LG Chemical Ltd.Inventors: Soo-Ryoung Kim, Jee-Ho Kim, Jeoung-Soo Kim, Young-Tae Kang
