Abstract: A muscle is exercised by orienting the body such that the muscle must be flexed to support a part of the body from falling under its weight. The strength of the muscle is supplemented by a device which provides an adjustable resistance, and the resistance is progressively reduced as the muscle is strengthened. The preferred device includes a spring and structure to adjustably compress the spring and to arrange it between selected parts of the user's body.
