    Abstract: A downrigger fishing system is described which significantly decreases the incidence of bottom snags. The downrigger system includes a downwardly and rearwardly extending leg which resists snagging or catching on rocks and other submerged items in the water. The downrigger system is useful for fishing at a desired depth by holding the line and lure under the water at any designated depth. The line is released from the downrigger when a fish takes the lure.
