A second electrical cable passes through the upper post, and has a male plug that is inserted into the female connector. At the other end of this cable are the various lamps, fitted on the top posts.

Rotation of the shaft causes rotation of the wheel, whereby the wick is moved up and down to change the amount of the wick that is within the reservoir of the fluid fuel.
