  • Patent number: 4945810
Abstract: An electromagnetic railgun having electrically conductive segments overlying but insulated from the rails. Switches are connected between each segment and its underlying rail. As a projectile and its plasma armature pass each segment, the switch associated with that segment opens, disconnecting the flow of current into the area behind the plasma armature. Without a source of current, parasitic current flow is prevented.
