  • Patent number: 7001096
Abstract: An apparatus for binding a stack of paper with at least one hole defined therein. The apparatus includes a male element having at least one post with a plurality of teeth. The post is configured to receive the stack of paper by threading the post through the hole. A female element with at least one aperture defined therein is placed substantially over the male element. The female aperture is structured to releasably engage at least one of the plurality of post teeth with sufficient grip to bind the stack of paper together.

  • Patent number: 6374751
Abstract: A portable and adjustable activity surface for use by a wide variety of individual users and that can accommodate a wide range of different activities thereon. The device has a support pad with a resting surface, a forward surface, a rearward surface and a sloping surface. The device also has a platform that contacts the sloping surface. The height of the platform can be increased by moving the platform up the sloping surface, and the height of the platform can be decreased by moving the platform down the sloping surface. The platform remains in contact with the support pad either by frictional forces or with hook-and-loop fasteners. Methods are also provided for making and using the activity surface.

  • Patent number: 5320456
Abstract: A binder for multiple sheets of paper employing a simple ratchet mechanism to secure the paper without the need for punching holes in the paper. The binding device includes a base member which is an elongated bar of L-shaped cross section with integral end plates. The binding device further includes a mating clamping member which is a slotted plate with an internally extending tongue. The back wall inside surface of the base member has a series of parallel, elongated saw-tooth ribs or grooves forming teeth with which the tongue engages in a ratchet-like manner. The teeth may be spaced in a staggered type arrangement to increase their effective number. Grooves forming teeth may also be placed on an outside surface of the base member back wall to increase the binding force. The end plates may be slotted to accept a finger adapted with notches on an underside to further ensure that the papers are securely bound.
