Publication number: 20250147327Abstract: A head-mounted device may have a display with first and second pixel arrays that display content for a user. A head-mounted support structure in the device supports the pixel arrays on the head of the user. A left positioner may be used to position a left lens module that includes a left lens and the first pixel array. A right positioner may be used to position a right lens module that includes a right lens and the second pixel array. Sensing circuitry such as proximity sensing circuitry may be used to detect relative positions between the left and right lens modules and facing surfaces of a user's nose while the user is wearing the head-mounted support structure. Control circuitry may adjust the positions of the left and right lens modules using interpupillary distance information for the user and using information from the sensing circuitry.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 8, 2025Publication date: May 8, 2025Inventors: Jeremy C. Franklin, Jia Tao, Phil M. Hobson, Stephen E. Dey

Publication number: 20250147581Abstract: A wearable electronic device can include interface features to provide guidance for optimal placement of the wearable electronic device. The wearable electronic device and/or another electronic device can be operated to guide a user to position the wearable electronic device in a manner that will achieve proper alignment of components with respect to the user and maximize user comfort. For example, the wearable electronic device and/or another device can include sensors for detecting features of the user's face, forces distributed on the face when worn, and/or alignment with the face (e.g., eyes). The guidance can include instructions or other interface features to encourage adjustment of the wearable electronic device. While the head wearable electronic device can provide such guidance to the user wearing it, the feedback can also be provided to another person and/or via another device.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2022Publication date: May 8, 2025Inventors: Paul X. Publication number: 20250147270Abstract: A head-mounted device may have a display that displays content for a user. Head-mounted support structures in the device support the device on the head of the user. A non-removable lens system may be supported by the head-mounted support structures. The head-mounted support structures may be configured to receive a removable supplemental lens system. The removable supplemental lens system may be used to customize the head-mounted display to accommodate the user's vision. Information such as information on the optical characteristics of the removable supplemental lens system and the user's eyeglass prescription may be stored in the removable supplemental lens system using bar codes, text, programmable memory, or other data storage. When the removable supplemental lens system is installed in the head-mounted device, control circuitry in the head-mounted device may retrieve the stored information. A gaze tracker system or other sensors may be used in retrieving the stored information.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 8, 2025Publication date: May 8, 2025Inventors: Andreas G. Weber, Jeremy C. Franklin, Jason C. Sauers, Victoria C. Chan, Wey-Jiun Lin

Patent number: 12288005Abstract: A system can include head-mounted devices that collaborate to process views from cameras of the respective head-mounted devices and identify objects from different perspectives and/or objects that are within the view of only one of the head-mounted devices. Sharing sensory input between multiple head-mounted devices can complement and enhance individual units by interpreting and reconstructing objects, surfaces, and/or an external environment with perceptive data from multiple angles and positions, which also reduces occlusions and inaccuracies. As more detailed information is available at a specific moment in time, the speed and accuracy of object recognition, hand and body tracking, surface mapping, and/or digital reconstruction can be improved. Such collaboration can provide more effective and efficient mapping of space, surfaces, objects, gestures and users.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2024Date of Patent: April 29, 2025Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Marinus Meursing, David A. Schmuck, Brian S. Lau, Jeremy C. Franklin

Patent number: 12287485Abstract: An optical module for a head-mounted device is configured to present content to a user. The optical module includes an optical module housing assembly, a display assembly, and an eye camera. The optical module housing assembly has a first end and a second end. The lens is connected to the optical module housing assembly and positioned at the first end of the optical module housing assembly. The display assembly is connected to the optical module housing assembly and is positioned at the second end of the optical module housing assembly. The display assembly is configured to cause the content to be displayed to the user through the lens. The eye camera is connected to the optical module housing assembly and is positioned at the second end of the optical module housing assembly. The eye camera is configured to obtain images through the lens.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2023Date of Patent: April 29, 2025Assignee: APPLE INC.Inventors: Ivan S. Maric, Jan K. Quijalvo, Anna V. Publication number: 20250123653Abstract: Electronic devices may be provided having internal components mounted to a structural glass support member. The structural glass support member may have a planar front surface that forms a front surface of the device. The structural glass support member may have bent portions that form sidewall surfaces of the device. Portions of the structural glass support member may form a transparent display cover layer. A rigid or flexible display may be mounted to the structural glass support member. Additional internal device components may be mounted to the display. A thin enclosure for enclosing the internal components in the device may be mounted to the structural glass support member. The thin enclosure may be mounted to the structural glass support member using a peripheral member. The thin enclosure may be free from attachments to internal components or may be adhesively bonded to one or more internal components.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 27, 2024Publication date: April 17, 2025Inventors: Jeremy C. Patent number: 12250361Abstract: A head-mountable device can operate in concert with one or more optical assemblies thereof to provide multiple users with shared experiences and content enjoyment. Such operations can be facilitated by a connection between the head-mountable device and one or both of its optical assemblies to allow different users to receive content. Such a connection can be made possible by a communication link that directly and/or physically connects the head-mountable device and one or both of its optical assemblies when the one or both of the optical assemblies is removed from the head-mountable device for operation by a separate user. The ability to provide multiple outputs on separate components allows separate users to participate in a shared experience.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 2023Date of Patent: March 11, 2025Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Paul X. Wang, Jeremy C. Franklin
