  • Patent number: 9207900
Abstract: A method and system for controlling the rendering of graphical data for remote display, e.g. for delivery over a network (6) to a remote client (7). At a source computer (1), graphical data is rendered and transmitted to the remote computer (7). At the remote computer (7), the transmitted rendered graphical data is received and presented for display. The rate of presenting at the remote computer (7) of the graphical data is monitored and the rate at which graphical data are rendered at the source computer (1) is controlled in response to the monitored rate of presenting at the remote computer (7).

Assignee: BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS public limited company
    Inventor: Jeremy D Barnsley
  • Patent number: 9183642
Abstract: A method of controlling graphical data compression levels for a series of images of varying area in order to maintain a consistent image quality, irrespective of image area. An image of a first area is compressed using a first compression value. When the first image is decompressed for display, it is associated with a first image quality. When a new image with a different area is generated, it is compressed using a new compression value derived from the first compression value. The new compression value is suitable for delivering an image quality, when the new image is decompressed for display, substantially the same as the image quality of the first image.

  • Patent number: 8781236
Abstract: A method for processing graphical data representing a sequence of images prior to compression, including analyzing a plurality of adjacent areas of an image from the sequence to determine: (i) a first set of areas, each of which includes changes when compared with a corresponding area in a previous image from the sequence; and (ii) a second set of areas, each of which does not include a change when compared with a corresponding area in the previous image. For each area of the second set, a section of the area is replaced with a block chosen to reduce the size of the graphical data once compressed, while leaving the original image of the area of the second set adjacent any part of the perimeter that adjoins an area of the first set. A dataset is provided to allow identification of the areas of the second set. On decompression of the compressed graphical data, the dataset is accessed and the image is processed by replacing each area of the second set with the corresponding area from a previous image.
