  • Patent number: 8616125
Abstract: An embossing assembly for forming an embossment pattern on a tube blank having a first roll and a second roll. The first roll includes a first shaft having a first axis of rotation and an embossing element joined to the first shaft. The second roll is configured to engage a tube blank when the tube blank at partially surrounds the first roll. The second roll includes a second shaft and a hub joined to the second shaft. The hub includes an engagement region configured to apply pressure to a tube blank adjacent to the embossing element thereby causing part of the tube blank to at least partially conform to the shape of the embossing element. The engagement region includes a compliant material which is more compliant than the second shaft thereby allowing the engagement region to compensate for variations in a wall thickness of a tube blank.

  • Publication number: 20040245069
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for variable-pitch spacing and turning or, reversibly, for turning and variable-pitch spacing of work pieces in production of disposable absorbent articles, such as, feminine hygiene articles, diapers, body wraps, and the like, are disclosed. The work pieces can include any component of a disposable absorbent article, a combination of components forming a semi-finished absorbent article, or a finished absorbent article product.

  • Patent number: 6170393
Abstract: An apparatus for embossing a pattern into absorbent articles such as sanitary napkins, panty liners, diapers, and adult incontinence pads is disclosed. The apparatus for forming a pattern of embossments in an absorbent article comprises an embosser assembly having a patterned die roll and an anvil roll. In one embodiment, the anvil roll comprises a multi-layered structure, that comprises a metal hub, encircled by a compressible layer and enclosed by a sleeve which reduces machine dynamics, such as vibration, associated with the embossing apparatus and significantly improves the embossing line process and quality. The embosser assembly also has a mechanism for applying compressive pressure on the components of an absorbent article when the components are placed between the die roll and the anvil roll.
