  • Publication number: 20080307901
Abstract: A thermowell or gas sampling probe comprising an elongated tube with one or more helical fins wound longitudinally along and around at least part of the outer surface of said tube where the width of the fin is in the range 0.005 D to 0.2 D; and the depth of the fin is in the range 0.05 D to 0.5 D; where D is the external diameter or width of the tube. The gas sampling probe comprising an elongate main tubular member having an inlet end and an outlet end and a sampling tube housed within said main tubular member extending from the inlet end to the outlet end.

  • Patent number: 6435878
Abstract: An interactive automatic system and technique for measuring and training of mental ability. In the illustrative embodiment, the invention is implemented on a computer which automatically presents a variety of visual and auditory stimuli. The system then measures reaction to the stimuli, adjusts certain stimulus parameters, and provides scores in response thereto. The scores are tabulated and displayed for analysis. In particular embodiments, the invention tests for physical reaction time, perceptual awareness thresholds, attention level, speed, efficiency and capacity of information processing by the brain and elementary cognitive processes, including memory, memory access and decision-making speed. The invention measures, identifies and quantifies noise in the subject's brain and elementary cognitive processing system, and the information exchange rate between the subject's left and right brain hemispheres.

  • Patent number: 6038342
Abstract: A system for recognition of characters on a medium. The system includes a scanner for scanning a medium such as a page of printed text and graphics and producing a bit-mapped representation of the page. The bit-mapped representation of the page is then stored in a memory means such as the memory of a computer system. A processor processes the bit-mapped image to produce an output comprising coded character representations of the text on the page. The present invention discloses parsing a page to allow for production of the output characters in a logical sequence, a combination of feature detection methods and template matching methods for recognition of characters and a number of methods for feature detection such as use of statistical data and polygon fitting.
    Type: Grant
