  • Publication number: 20200301168
Abstract: A method and associated implementing system eliminates much of the stress presently introduced by the bonding of ophthalmic lens blanks, or blanks to a holding device, namely a metal block. The method of attaching ophthalmic lens blanks to a blocking assembly comprises the steps of shaping a blocking assembly to take the shape of an ophthalmic lens blank surface of an ophthalmic lens, wherein the blocking assembly is not attached directly to the ophthalmic lens blank during shaping of the blocking assembly; and following the shaping of the blocking assembly, attaching the lens blank to the shaped blocking assembly.

  • Publication number: 20180272493
Abstract: A manually operated lens cribber has a cutting compartment on a base. The cutting compartment has a door that is moveable between a closed position and an open position. A cutting tool is inside the cutting compartment and rotates about a first axis. A lens blank carrier is attached to the base in a manner to be manually movable across the base on a second axis that is substantially perpendicular to the first axis. The lens blank carrier has a hand operated screw mechanism on which a lens blank can be mounted and which moves the lens along a third axis that is substantially parallel to the first axis. A releasable end stop is positioned on the base for positioning the lens blank carrier relative to the cutting tool so that the desired amount of material is removed from the lens blank. A calibration and positioning scale is also provided.

  • Patent number: 9810927
Abstract: A process for creating a production specification for a customized eyeglass frame for a patient includes the following steps. A library is accessed having fully parameterized standardized models for characterizing a plurality of eyeglass frame styles. The models are configured to accept a plurality of customization inputs including patient biometric data. A customized model of an eyeglass frame is then constructed by populating the fully parameterized standardized model corresponding to the eyeglass frame style selected by the patient with the customization inputs for the patient. An output is generated from the customized model, the output corresponding to the production specification for the customized eyeglass frame.
