  • Publication number: 20240301813
Abstract: A coolant heating system includes: a coolant heater including: a housing including: an inlet configured to receive coolant; and an outlet configured to output coolant; an electrically resistive heating element that is disposed within the housing and that is configured to generate heat when power is applied to the heating element; and a temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature of coolant within the housing; and a heater control module configured to: receive the temperature from the temperature sensor; selectively control application of power to the heating element based on maintaining the temperature at or above a predetermined temperature; selectively detect the presence of a condition based on the temperature; and when the presence of the condition is detected, disconnect the heating element from power.

  • Publication number: 20180328332
Abstract: An air intake assembly includes heating elements. The heating elements include windings arranged in a serpentine configuration and having crest portions and trough portions. At least one crest portion of a first heating element is fastened to a corresponding trough portion of a second heating element. The heating elements are arranged in a honeycomb configuration.

  • Publication number: 20170342948
Abstract: An intake air heating system for a vehicle includes an electrical switching device configured to selectively connect a battery of the vehicle to a heater coil in contact with intake air of the vehicle. The intake air heating system includes a control circuit configured to, in response to an enable signal from an engine controller, drive the electrical switching device to connect the battery to the heater coil at full current. The control circuit is configured to measure a resistance of the heater coil indicative of an initial temperature of the heater coil and, in response to an estimated temperature of the heater coil exceeding a desired temperature value, modulate the electrical switching device to reduce current from the battery of the vehicle to the heater coil.
