  • Patent number: 9312813
Abstract: An instrument cluster assembly is disclosed and includes at least one gauge. The gauge comprises a dial surface and a ring spaced apart from the dial surface. The ring has an outer surface and an inner surface that includes ring graphics. The gauge further comprises a pointer rotatable about an axis. The pointer may include a pointer arm including a portion extending into a space defined between the inner surface of the ring and the dial surface and at least partially visible through the ring. The dial surface my include dial graphics.

  • Patent number: 9139092
Abstract: An instrument cluster assembly mounts within a vehicle dashboard. An opening is defined within the dashboard provides for mounting of an instrument cluster assembly. The example instrument cluster assembly includes a top surface that corresponds with the top surface of the dashboard to provide a completed top visible surface when in a completed assembled condition. The instrument cluster assembly includes a first gauge and a second gauge separated by an open space therebetween. A bi-vision display is mounted in the open space between the first and second gauges. The bi-vision display generates a virtual image that is viewed by the operator between the first and second gauges.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: September 22, 2015
    Assignee: Continental Automotive Systems, Inc.
Inventors: Werner Eckardt, Arthur S. Brown, Jeremy Rooney, Robert Drury
  • Publication number: 20140165903
Abstract: A gauge assembly is disclosed and includes a gauge surface including graphics representing a vehicle operating parameter and a pointer supported for movement about an axis to indicate a current condition of the vehicle operating parameter by pointing to a specific location on the gauge surface. A cap mounted to the pointer along the axis is formed from a plastic film material different than the material forming the pointer.
