Abstract: Wastewater treatment apparatus comprising at least one pre-tank and a reactor tank between which a transfer connection is provided to enable wastewater to be transferred from the or each pre-tank to the reactor tank. The reactor tank is provided with a biomass and aeration equipment to enable the wastewater to be treated in the reactor tank. The capacity of the pre-tank or pre-tanks enables it or them to retain the storm flow for a sufficient period of time. The or one of the pre-tanks is provided with a storm overflow, whereby even in storm conditions the reactor tank remains effective and settled solids from the storm flow in the pre-tank or one of the pre-tanks are transferred at intervals to the reactor tank. In the event of persistence of the storm conditions, excess wastewater is released via the storm overflow without interrupting operation of the reactor tank.

Relative mouth-level adjustment means are provided to adjust the level of the mouth between a position in which it is below the surface of liquid in a container to a position in which it is above that surface. The relative mouth-level adjustment means comprise at least one float having a selectively variable displacement.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for waste water treating system including a working tank, waste water treatment apparatus in the working tank by which organic waste in the waste water is treated. A discharge outlet is provided from the working tank. A waste water holding tank is located upstream of the working tank. A first transfer pump between the working tank and the holding tank is provided to transfer waste water from the holding tank to the waste water tank. A second transfer pump is provided to discharge waste water from the working tank through a discharge outlet. A sensor is provided to sense the values of physical characteristics of the waste water in the tanks and to issue signals indicative of the different values. The time of operation of at least one of the transfer pumps by the control computer is varied in accordance with the value indicated by the signal issued from the sensor.

Abstract: Sewage treatment apparatus comprising a tank, aeration means which serve to aerate a biomass contained within the tank when the apparatus is in use, and air compressor means which are connected to the aeration means to deliver air thereto, in which the air compressor means are in a housing that forms a barrier between the housing interior and the tank interior, to inhibit transfer of gas or other material from the tank interior to the housing interior.
