  • Publication number: 20030186807
Abstract: The present invention relates to a hydrogel product for adsorption purposes where an in water insoluble support matrix is cross-linked with polymers which give rise to an in water swellable adsorbent. Further the polymers are internally cross-linked through at least one cross-linking agent. As a support matrix an organic polymer is used or a combination of such; e.g. polysaccharide such as agar, cellulose, starch and so on, protein and components of protein and polysaccharide. The support matrix is substituted with a first, soluble polymer material chemically bound to the support matrix, whereupon additional polymer materials optionally are built-in in the primary synthesised support matrix complex through different kinds of cross-links, wherein optionally the support matrix is present in the form of an acid- and base-stable residue.

  • Publication number: 20030096218
Abstract: A polymer product useful for adsorbing small molecular size solutes in the presence of large molecular size solutes comprises a matrix polymer, an affinity ligand, and a shielding ligand. The affinity ligand forms complexes with small molecular size solutes, while the shielding ligand prevents large molecular size solutes from forming complexes with the affinity ligand. The matrix polymer, affinity ligand, and shielding ligand are covalently bonded together. The affinity ligand and shielding ligand may both be independently bonded to the matrix polymer, or the affinity ligand may be bonded to the matrix polymer, and the shielding ligand bonded to the affinity ligand.

  • Patent number: 6339039
Abstract: A hydrogel product for adsorption wherein water non-soluble support matrix is cross-linked with polymers which give rise to a water swellable adsorbent. As support matrix an organic polymer or a combination of such are used; e.g. polysaccharides such as agar, cellulose, or starch, proteins and components of proteins and polysaccharides. The support matrix is substituted with a first soluble polymer material chemically bound to the support matrix, whereupon additional polymer materials are built into the primary synthesized support matrix polymer complex through different kinds of cross-oinks whereby optionally the support matrix is present in the form of an acid- and base-stable residue.

  • Patent number: 5942463
Abstract: An adsorbent preferably for proteins and peptides, but also for e.g. certain metals, with hydrophilic ligands covalently bonded to a polymer net around a carrier, and having the general structure: --X--S--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --R, wherein X is a spacer arm, n is an integer 1 or 2, and R is a .pi.-electron-rich ring system with at least one nitrogen atom in the ring structure. Thanks to its resistance to 1M caustic, a concentration which eliminates bacteria, viruses and pyrogens, the adsorbent can be reused for medical purposes in large scale work.

  • Patent number: 5141966
Abstract: The invention concerns a polymer product for immobilizing of metal ions, adsorption, and the like, with the structureP--X--A--Qwherein P is a hydrophilic polymer with a molecular weight of more than 3 000 Daltons. X is a heteroatom, O, S or N, A is an atom sequence with at least 3 carbon atoms, and Q is a group with at least two branches with terminal, metal, metal chelate forming substituents, each having at least two hetero atoms, N, O or S, separated by two or at most three carbon atoms in a sequence or Q is a macrocyclic ring with at least 8 and not more than 30 atoms, at least 3 of which are nitrogen atoms, in sequence in the ring, and the preparation thereof which is done by activating a hydrophilic polymer with epoxi or vinylsulfone or inserting of aldehyde groups, couupling with tris-(2-aminoethyl)-amin and treating with reagents chosen from .alpha.-haloalkanoate, .alpha.

  • Patent number: 4701500
Abstract: Heavy metals can be fixed to solid carriers to which an .alpha.-amino- or an .alpha.-iminohydroxamate ligand has been covalently bound. The ligand can have the structural formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 represent H or an alkyl, or may be a compound of two or more hydroxamate substituents. The carrier can be formed of polysaccharides, polygalactanes, polyacrylates or silica dioxide. The adsorbent is prepared by an .alpha.-aminohydroxamate in an aqueous solution having a pH value of 4-9 being brought into contact with an aldehyde derivative of a carrier, followed by reduction with sodiumborohydride or sodiumcyanoborohydride.

  • Patent number: 4696980
Abstract: The adsorbent consists of a solid phase, completely or partially penetrated by or surface-coated with a hydrophilic molecular polymer netting to which has been bound substituents or cross bridges having chain sequences of the structureX--CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --SO.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --S--Ywhere X is ether oxygen, a thioether sulfur atom or a nitrogen atom and Y is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, aryl or heteroaromatic group. The solid phase consists of particles with a diameter of less than 1 mm and the molecular polymer netting consisting of a cross-linked polyhydroxy polymer such as a polysaccharide, preferably a polygalactane such as agar or agarose or a cross-linked polyamide, e.g. polyacryl amide. Y can be hydroxy alkyl or mercapto alkyl, or phenyl alkyl or phenyl substituted with halogen or nitro groups. The adsorbent is prepared by first converting in a known manner a hydrophilic polymer containing OH and/or CONH.sub.

  • Patent number: 4677027
Abstract: A solid phase can be coated superficially with a polymeric coating by substituting immobilized metal ions on the surface of the solid phase with a hydrophilic polymer or a derivative or aggregate thereof, through a chemisorption process. The solid phase may comprise a magnetic material, such as magnetite, and may have a particle form. The coating can be produced by bringing the solid phase into contact with a solution of a reagent which includes at least one metal chelating and one reactive group, and subsequently bringing the solid phase into contact with a solution of a compound which reacts with the chelater reagent adsorbed on the solid phase. The polymer layer may constitute a polyhydric alcohol, a polyamine, or a polyamide, for example a polysaccharide, such as agarose, a protein or a peptide, a polyacryl amide, etc. and the reactive group may be a vinylsulphone or an epoxide, an aminothiol or a hydroxyl.
