  • Patent number: 8845750
Abstract: A joint resurfacing prosthetic implant system is disclosed having an anatomically-shaped implant to replace a joint at a pedal digit or finger, including a head having an elliptical bearing surface disposed for engaging the end of an adjacent bone and a seating surface opposite the bearing surface, an elongated stem extending distally from the seating surface, and a flange on the circumference of the device and extending distally from the seating surface. The flange includes one or more portals and a removed section configured to avoid impinging upon a tendon during and after implantation of the prosthetic. A specialized tool is also provided to facilitate the resection of the bone for implantation. The specialized tool includes an elliptical template having a cutting edge and a center insert that is sized and configured to match a reamer used to bore into the bone for insertion of the implant.

  • Publication number: 20060189914
Abstract: An elastic bandage is disclosed having narrow extension portion to allow for beginning compression at a specified pedal digit or finger. The elastic bandage can be wrapped around the identified digit and remain in place, as required, by integrated fastening hooks. The elastic bandage may be further wrapped around the foot or hand, as appropriate, to provide compression at the surgical site, as well as positional overcorrection, if required.

  • Patent number: 5919193
Abstract: A method to surgically promote the fusion of bone segments together in order to correct bone malformations of the finger or toe involves making an incision in the finger or toe to expose the malformed digit; removing a portion of the malformed digit; forming a bore through each digit from the malformed digit through a tip of the finger or toe; forming a hole, that is aligned with the bore, in a proximal digit; enlarging the diameter of the bore relative to the hole; and inserting a bone screw having a head portion into the bore through the tip of the finger or toe and threadably attaching the bone screw within the hole in the proximal digit until each distal digit is compressed between the head portion of the bone screw and the proximal digit. A tracker member, having a terminal sleeve portion adapted to receive a tip of the bone screw, is provided to guide the screw into the bore through the tip of the finger or toe.

  • Patent number: 4411077
Abstract: Two wide equal length elastic flexible straps are cut on an angle at corresponding ends which are attached to opposite sides of an athletic shoe near the heel region where the shoe sole joins the upper. Each strap on its outer side relative to the shoe has a loop pile fastener component adjacent to the malleolus and on its opposite side adjacent to its free end has a cooperative hook fastener component. The straps in succession are drawn around the rear of the angle and lower leg under elastic tension and across the upper instep and the cooperative fastener components of each strap are pressed together into holding engagement. The two straps cross each other at the rear and front of the ankle and lower leg. A brace is formed which affords the greatest reduction in inversion and eversion of the ankle immediately adjacent to the collateral ligaments of the ankle.
