    Abstract: An improved system and procedure for allowing participants within a group conversation on a wireless communication network to at least temporarily break away from a group conversation and hold a side bar conversation. The side bar conversation may comprise several different types, including a public conversation (much like the original group conversation) or may constitute a private conversation (much like a standard phone call) or private text messaging or data exchange. A group conversation user wishing to hold the side bar conversation uses his user interface to alert other group conversation user(s) with whom he would like to hold the side bar conversation. Either the initiating user or the recipient user(s) can recommend the type of side bar conversation to be had using their user interfaces.

    Abstract: A remote unit can be controlled by sensing the change of impedance in the power line of a control unit as the control unit is turned on. The power line circuit includes a portion of an oscillator which is damped by the turn-on. Functions such as power turn-on and temporary audio muting are possible with minimal voltage drop in the power line.

    Abstract: A combination radio and tape player is disclosed which includes a signal equalization selector wherein the audio program selection switches which select either an AM or FM radio mode or a tape player mode of operation also simultaneously select various different sets of stored control signals which implement predetermined audio signal equalization in accordance with the type of audio mode of operation (program) that was selected. This is accomplished by the use of a random access memory which stores three pluralities (sets) of control signals, each plurality of control signals corresponding to a predetermined desired equalization for either the AM, FM or tape player modes of operation of the combination radio and tape player. Manual controls are provided which allow selective adjustment of the equalization provided in any of the AM, FM or tape player modes of operation.
