  • Patent number: 4991536
Abstract: A marker for locating an underground object such as a utility line. The marker is attached to a line by wrapping a portion of the marker about the line and inserting an end of the marker through an aperture located between the ends of the marker. A collapsible tongue forming the end of the marker enables the marker to release from the object that it encircles when a tugging force of a certain magnitude is imparted to the marker.

  • Patent number: 4393925
Abstract: A heat extractor for picking up waste heat from flue gases is disclosed. The extractor attaches to the stove pipe of a furnace or stove. Air is introduced into the extractor in a spiral flow pattern which is reversed after the air is heated. Air flows into the room from the extractor in a 360.degree. pattern.

  • Patent number: 4391401
Abstract: The specification discloses a forming die or ram movable along a guideway or track by a pair of toggle-joint linkages to move from a column of staples a staple having a downwardly bowed central portion into engagement with an anvil, then bend outer portions down over the anvil to drive pointed legs into the flesh and bring the legs into alignment with each other. The column of staples is pressed by a spring arm and a follower toward the track and is laterally supported in a staple magazine. Each toggle-joint linkage is a one-piece member with two rigid arms connected by an undulating spring portion. The magazine is detachably connected to the track by spring latches or clips. Another stapler has a hook-like anvil, and the bowed central portion of the staple as it is pressed against the anvil by a forming die or ram, is first straightened and then bent legs are bent from the central portion, thus giving a "soft" initial feel to the stapling.

  • Patent number: 4340143
Abstract: A hydraulic bean cleaner for removing rocks from beans has a hopper for gravity-feeding uncleaned beans down an inner cylindrical tube into a cylindrical separator tank. The inner tube has a bean discharge opening centered just above the bottom of the tank. An outer cylindrical tube concentrically surrounds the inner tube, providing an annular passageway therebetween and a water discharge opening surrounding the bean discharge opening. A first vibrator vibrates the tubes as a unit to help feed the beans down the inner tube. A second vibrator vibrates the hopper independently of the tubes to aid in feeding the beans to the inner tube. The beans drop into the bottom of the tank and water is expelled downwardly into the tank around them. The water entrains and fluidizes the beans, carrying them laterally away from the bean discharge opening and buoying them upwardly. The turbulent flow of water agitates the beans.

  • Patent number: 4272002
Abstract: The specification discloses an improved multiple suture stapler in which two rows of staples are pushed by a comb-like ram out of a magazine of a frame and are clinched by an anvil releasably latched to the frame. The frame is of one-piece plastic construction and includes a pair of handles hinged to the magazine and having forwardly projecting, hinged arms welded to a push rod connected to the ram. One of the handles has a thumb grip used when the anvil is closed on the magazine. A stapler forming an alternate embodiment of the invention includes a latching rod splined to a frame with a thumb grip serving to push the latching rod into a latch mechanism of an anvil, and also adapted to be manually turned to turn the rod to a latch releasing position.

  • Patent number: 4187590
Abstract: A one-piece elastic fastener includes a pair of spaced elastic, generally dish-shaped head members adapted to fit on opposite sides of pieces of material to be joined. The head members each have a rim and are disposed concavely inwardly with their rims facing each other. An elastic shank member joins the head members and is adapted to pass through an opening in the pieces of material. In one embodiment an elongated loop member is centrally attached to one of the head members and is adapted to pull it through an opening in the pieces of material to be joined. In another embodiment a boss is positioned on one of the head members and a hook is used to pull it through the opening.

  • Patent number: 4122819
Abstract: Apparatus for controlling fuel flow to an engine including means for disabling the operation of the accelerator pedal linkage associated with a carburetor is disclosed. The construction materially aids in preventing engine backfire. Included is a pivotable solenoid operated latch plate which forms part of an essential pivot point in the linkage arrangement and fixes the pivot point when current is flowing from the coil in engine ignition circuit.Solenoid operated means for stopping fuel to the carburetor and closing the passageway from the carburetor into the intake manifold are also shown.
