  • Patent number: 4814034
Abstract: This invention relates to a process of making flat stock fibrous cellulosic food casings containing a low plasticizer level of between about 10 wt. % and about 17 wt. %, including at least about 9 wt. % polyol, both based upon the bone dry weight of cellulose in the casing, This process comprising forming a fibrous web into a tube, annularly extruding viscose onto the tube, passing the viscose coated tube through a regenerating bath, and incorporating water-soluble plasticizer into either or both the resulting cellulosic gel stock fibrous tube and the dried fibrous tube.

  • Patent number: 4688299
Abstract: A stuffing method for forming a multilayer composite casing is disclosed. In the method a continuous web tube is formed about a stuffing horn from web stock. The web tube thus formed is passed through the bore of a shirred casing and then is merged with casing drawn from the shirred casing. The merged casing and web tube are joined to provide the closed end of a multilayered composite casing for receiving foodstuff discharged into the closed end.A casing article is also disclosed which includes a shirred casing having a tubular leader extending through its bore wherein one end of the leader is attachable to a web for drawing the web through the bore of the shirred casing.

  • Patent number: 4207353
Abstract: A cellulosic food casing includes an internal coating comprising a water soluble cellulose ether and a cationic thermosetting resin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 21, 1979

  • Patent number: 4162557
Abstract: A process for turning a coated casing inside out comprising the steps of humidifying, if necessary, and then shirring a length of casing to produce a shirred stick. Thereafter, one end of the casing is drawn through the bore and out of the opposite end of the casing stick thereby effectively reversing the inner and outer surfaces of the casing.
