  • Publication number: 20150092154
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a non-deforming contact lens for keratoconus patients having a displaced central zone. In particular, the central zone is displaced from the geometric center of the lens. The shape of the central zone is egg or spoon-shaped and is rotationally asymmetrical with one semi-meridian that is shorter than a corresponding semi-meridian. An intermediate transition zone is formed integral with the periphery of the central zone, and a peripheral zone is formed integral with the periphery of the intermediate transition zone, forming a round contact lens.

  • Patent number: 8894208
Abstract: This application describes a kit of contact lenses comprising two or more contact lenses having a known higher order aberration for each given lens power. By way of example, the higher order aberration may comprise a spherical aberration, a coma aberration, or a trefoil aberration. A practitioner selects a lens from the kit and applies the lens to a patient's eye and measures a residual higher order aberration of the lens-eye system. In cases where the residual higher order aberration exceeds a predetermined magnitude, the practitioner selects a second lens from the kit, applies the second lens to the patient's eye and measures the residual higher order aberration of the lens-eye system.

  • Patent number: 8794759
Abstract: The invention is directed to a contact lens design and methods of manufacturing, fitting and using such lenses. The contact lens may be designed for use in a corneal refractive therapy (CRT) program. The lens provides a design which allows proper fitting of a patient, whether for corrective contact lenses or for a CRT program. Due to the rational design of the lenses according to the present invention, a minimal number of lens parameter increments can be identified to cover the range of common corneas. It is therefore possible to provide pre-formed lens buttons or blanks which are easily formed into a final design, thereby simplifying and speeding up the treatment process. Further, any adjustment of the lens design which may be required based upon trial fitting or the like, is easily envisioned and implemented by the fitter.

  • Patent number: 8786520
Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention provide for systems and apparatuses directed toward using a display panel to processes display information and non-display information. Further embodiments, utilize a display panel in conjunction with a contact lens assembly configured to process the display information. In one embodiment of the invention, a display system is provided, comprising: a display panel disposed on a head-borne apparatus such that when a viewer is wearing the head-borne apparatus, the display panel is positioned in close proximity to an eye of the viewer such that the eye is unable to focus on the display panel unassisted; and a contact lens having focusing optics that assists the eye in focusing on the display panel. Within the display system, the display panel has pixels and is configured without focusing optics, thereby allowing light emitted by the pixels to diverge in an unfocused manner.

  • Publication number: 20140100556
Abstract: An ophthalmic surgery system and method for treating presbyopia by performing ablative photodecomposition of the corneal surface. The offset image of a variable aperture, such as a variable width slit and variable diameter iris diaphragm, is scanned in a preselected pattern to perform ablative sculpting of predetermined portions of a corneal surface. The scanning is performed to ablate an optical zone sized to match the patient pupil with a peripheral transition zone outside the pupil. The shape of the ablated optical zone is different from the shape of the final optical correction on the anterior surface of the cornea. The optical zone corrects for near-vision centrally and far-vision peripherally. A movable image displacement mechanism enables radial displacement and angular rotation of the profiled beam exiting from the variable aperture.
