  • Patent number: 4788855
Abstract: Apparatus for simultaneously measuring the torque generated by a bladed turbofan engine as well as the forward force generated by gases exhausted from the turbofan engine in order to calculate total thrust. The apparatus includes a cradle for suspending the engine. A load cell connected between the cradle and a rigid structure measures the force generated by gases exhausted from the engine. The rotational torque generated by rotating bladed fan sections of the engine are measured by individual dynamometers. The dynamometers are connected to the fan sections by endless belts which are engaged to geared cowlings mounted to the fan sections in place of the blades and fan section cowlings. Each endless belt is also engaged to a rotatable gear member of the dynamometer so as to transmit the generated torque between the fan section and the dynamometer.

  • Patent number: 4217756
Abstract: Apparatus for internally mixing fan exhaust with primary exhaust forward of the nozzle exit plane of a turbofan engine having an outer engine cowling, a splitter wall structure and a tail plug disposed in mid engine upstream of the nozzle exit plane is provided by a plurality of struts disposed radially between the engine tail plug and the outer engine cowling upstream of the nozzle exit plane and a plurality of vortex generating means disposed on the struts for generating vorticies across the entire engine exhaust area.

  • Patent number: 4003249
Abstract: A pneumatic computing device is disclosed for use with turbofan engines having mixer-type nozzles, in which both turbine and fan discharge pressures are tapped and pneumatically combined to derive a pressure equal to a weighted average thereof for application along with engine inlet pressure to a ratio-taking computing indicator instrument that registers an engine pressure ratio (EPR) from which the level of thrust developed by the engine can be accurately determined.
