  • Patent number: 5267300
Abstract: A dialed telephone connection can be implemented as an end-to-end digital connection by virtue of switched voice transmission facilities becoming more prevalent. If such a connection is detected, it is possible to transmit digital data over the connection at a much higher rate than using analog technology. A dialed voice call is emulated to set up such a connection and the connection is then tested to determine if it is end-to-end digital. If so, high speed digital data can be passed. If not, the connection is broken and then reestablished repeatedly until such a digital connection is found. In one embodiment, the calls are alternately initiated from each of the two parties involved in attempts to increase the likelihood of achieving an end-to-end digital connection. If no such connection can be obtained after a reasonable number of tries, an analog communication session can be established.

  • Patent number: 5100906
Abstract: This invention relates to the enhancement of memory and cognition and the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome by administration of 5-(R.sub.n -phenyl)-4-alkyl-3H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiones of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is halogen, trifluoromethyl, C.sub.1-4 lower alkyl orC.sub.1-4 lower alkoxy,n is zero, 1 or 2, andR.sub.2 represents hydrogen or C.sub.1-3 lower alkyl; andR.sub.4 independently represents C.sub.1-3 lower alkyl.

  • Patent number: 4805215
Abstract: This invention relates to an echo canceller, for a transmission line, including a shift register having an input for receiving an input signal from a signal source and having a plurality of output taps for providing a plurality of equally spaced delayed signals. A tap coefficient storage memory stores a plurality of tap coefficients. A multiplier multiplies certain of the delayed signals by certain tap coefficients to produce multiplier outputs. A tap allocation circuit determines, on a tap by tap basis, how many and which of the taps are to be turned ON so that its corresponding tap coefficients are multiplied by the multiplier. A subtracter cancels echoes by subtracting the multiplier outputs from signals received on the transmission line. Taps which are turned OFF may be assigned a status of STANDBY and these taps may be activated to compensate for changes in the characteristics of the transmission line.

  • Patent number: 4730313
Abstract: A method of providing B channel diagnostics to an integrated services digital network (ISDN) comprises the steps of monitoring error performance on the ISDN D channel and comparing the D channel error performance to a predetermined criterion as a measure of the B channel error performance. If the predetermined threshold is exceeded any of a number of possible actions can be taken by a network diagnostics controller including various loopback tests, alerts or network reconfiguration.

  • Patent number: 4593409
Abstract: A warning and protection circuit arrangement suitable for use in conjunction with a two-way portable transceiver having a removable battery pack/antenna includes a battery enclosure containing an antenna structure. A circuit is enclosed inside the battery enclosure for providing information indicative of certain predetermined parameters of the antenna or the battery. This information may be used by the transceiver to provide the user with an alert in the event an inappropriate battery pack/antenna is being used. The information may also be used to modify the normal operation of the transceiver to avoid possible damage.
