  • Patent number: 4229387
Abstract: An electro-mechanical cartridge type fuel flow control valve assembly that can be substituted as a whole for the conventional power valve unit of a carburetor to convert the carburetor to one of the feedback type. The cartridge includes a stepper motor threadedly engaging a needle like power valve for vertically moving the power valve to vary fuel flow upon energization of any of four terminals formed as a quick disconnect coupling as part of the cartridge.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 26, 1978
Date of Patent: October 21, 1980
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
Inventors: Jerry B. Rogerson, Robert F. Connin, Harold E. Benedix, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4196156
Abstract: A carburetor choke valve or plate is interconnected to a fast idle cam mechanism by linkage having a lost motion permitting continued operation of the fast idle cam subsequent to the choke plate attaining a wide open position.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 15, 1979
Date of Patent: April 1, 1980
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
Inventors: Jerry B. Rogerson, Robert S. Harrison
  • Patent number: 4129623
Abstract: A carburetor has an eccentrically mounted fast idle cam the axis of rotation of which is moved by an engine intake manifold vacuum actuated servo to automatically decrease throttle valve fast idle position as soon as the engine obtains a running condition from a cold engine start.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 26, 1977
Date of Patent: December 12, 1978
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
Inventors: Jerry B. Rogerson, Robert S. Harrison
  • Patent number: 4114584
Abstract: The choke valve or plate of an automotive type carburetor is provided with a solenoid operated mechanism to positively close the choke plate during engine cranking operations below predetermined temperature levels to assure uniform cold engine starts, a bimetallic coiled spring varying the position of the choke plate as a function of the temperature levels, the solenoid operated mechanism being ineffective to move the choke plate above a predetermined starting temperature.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 26, 1977
Date of Patent: September 19, 1978
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
Inventors: Jerry B. Rogerson, Robert S. Harrison
  • Patent number: 4096212
Abstract: An automotive type carburetor has a choke plate or valve that falls by gravity or is moved by airflow from a closed engine cranking position to a variable number of cold engine running partially closed positions as a function of the differential force between a bimetallic coiled spring and a modulating spring, the positions being independent of engine intake manifold vacuum.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 26, 1977
Date of Patent: June 20, 1978
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
Inventors: Jerry B. Rogerson, Robert S. Harrison
  • Patent number: 4062910
Abstract: The carburetor fuel bowl has a vapor vent hole closed by a manifold vacuum opened valve to prevent fuel spillage during vehicle rollover. During engine operation with low vacuum, the accelerator pump mechanically inhibits closure of the vent valve.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 7, 1977
Date of Patent: December 13, 1977
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
Inventors: Jerry B. Rogerson, Calvin J. Simmons
