  • Publication number: 20220021179
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to a photonic device that includes a first substrate defining a surface and a trench forming a depression along a portion of the surface, and a second substrate coupled with the surface and extending from the surface to form a raised portion around the trench. The photonic device can also include a laser die positioned within the trench, such that the laser die is surrounded by the second substrate, and an optical material positioned within a region between the laser die and the second substrate. The photonic device can further include a third substrate coupled with the second substrate such that the second substrate is positioned between the first substrate and the third substrate such that the second substrate is configured to at least partially isolate the laser die from mechanical stress exerted on the optical device.

  • Patent number: 8094359
Abstract: Devices and techniques for forming devices based on electro-optic whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonators by using spatially modulated electrodes and electro-optic whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonators that effectuate coupling between light in an optical whispering gallery mode in the TE mode and light in another optical whispering gallery mode in the TM mode.

  • Patent number: 5367887
Abstract: The instant invention is directed to an apparatus for frosting drinking glasses. The apparatus is a self contained flash freezer designed for placement on a countertop wherein a miniaturized refrigeration system is mounted directly above a flash freezing chamber. Drinking glasses are placed upon a sloped roller bed used for transferring of the drinking glasses which are subjected to temperatures of about -30 degrees Fahrenheit causing frosting of the drinking glasses in less than one minute. The frosted glasses can be removed from a second opening of the chamber disposed at the lower end of the sloping roller bed. During normal operation, the apparatus is sized to handle a number of glasses and the sloped roller bed permits insertion of untreated drinking glasses which in turn forces the exit of frosted drinking glasses.

  • Patent number: 4026402
Abstract: An incremental impact printer of the dot matrix type. Binary words representative of data to be printed along a line of print may be accepted from either the printer keyboard or the output of a computer or other source. The printer electronics provides for either a single character or a burst of characters to be substantially instantaneously printed upon receipt. The print head is always moved to the right of the last character printed to facilitate observation of that character. The next character is printed by first moving the print head to the left of the last character printed and then abruptly reversing the print head to print one or a burst of characters "on the fly". A novel registration system serves the dual function of accurately locating the proper position for a character to be printed and determining the direction of movement of the print head at any given instant.
