  • Patent number: 8730479
Abstract: System, including methods and apparatus, for light detection and signal processing for droplet-based assays. An exemplary system provides a method of detection for droplets. An examination region of a channel may be illuminated with first pulses of light interleaved with second pulses of light as droplets pass through the examination region, the first pulses being spectrally distinct from the second pulses. Data may be collected representing light detected during illumination of the examination region with the first pulses and the second pulses. Each droplet may be illuminated with a beam of light that is narrower than a diameter of the droplets.

  • Publication number: 20080273115
Abstract: A format for accessing content such as a full-length move from an optical disc uses an XML description file stored on the disc to generate one or more screens that a user employs to access the content. The decoding requirements of a hardware or software player are reduced by discarding specific elements of an encoding standard such as MPEG4 that is used to encode the content on the disc. The maximum average and peak bitrates at which the data is transferred are limited to further reduce the demands on the player.

  • Publication number: 20020027865
Abstract: An optical data storage system 100 utilizes optical fibers 102 for transfer of information to and from storage media 107. The storage media 107 comprises magneto-optical storage disks. The optical fibers 102 are low-birefringence optical fibers. As compared to the prior art, a polarization state conveyed by the optical fiber 102 is accurately reproduced with reduced noise.

  • Patent number: 5850375
Abstract: An optical system and method for transmission of light between a RF modulated source of light and a magneto-optical storage location along an optical path including: orthogonally aligned first and second single-mode polarization maintaining optical fibers, a flying magneto-optical head, and a quarter-wave plate positioned on the flying magneto-optical head.
