Patent number: 9267626Abstract: A threaded sink flange assembly for a food waste disposer includes a threaded sink flange, a sink flange nut, an upper mounting flange and a retainer. The threaded sink flange has a tubular body portion that has an externally threaded portion and a plurality of radially outwardly projecting mounting ledges with gaps therebetween. The sink flange nut is internally threaded with threaded portions interspersed with gaps, there being at least a gap corresponding to each mounting ledge. The upper mounting flange is annular having a top ring with a plurality of radially inwardly extending mounting projections. The mounting projections are received on the mounting ledges when the upper mounting flange is assembled to the threaded sink flange. A plurality of flanges extend from a bottom of an outer wall of the upper mounting flange with each flange having a radially outwardly extending inclined mounting ramp.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2014Date of Patent: February 23, 2016Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.Inventors: Brian J. Falcone, Jerry G. Ryder, Walter Bennage, Ping Yuan

Patent number: 8500050Abstract: A food waste disposer has a grinding mechanism that improves fineness and speed of grinding food waste, and also controls or meters the size of the comminuted food waste particles that are discharged from the food waste disposer. It does so by utilizing a more aggressive grind ring of the grinding mechanism that includes horizontal shredder elements in addition to openings, and blocking all except the openings in a minor circumferential portion of the grind ring from discharging comminuted food waste and water to a discharge outlet. In an aspect, a resilient seal is used to seal the adapter ring to a housing of an upper end bell of the grinding section and also provide a seal for a rotating shredder plate assembly of the food waste disposer.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2011Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.Inventor: Jerry G. Ryder

Publication number: 20120180210Abstract: A sink flange and collar assembly for a food waste disposer includes a sink flange having a tubular body portion and an annular flange transversely extending from the tubular body portion. An outer radial surface of the tubular body portion having at least one first dimple extending outwardly from the outer radial surface. A collar has a dimple attachment recess adapted to slidably receive the at least one first dimple, and a dimple insertion track transversely oriented to the dimple attachment recess to releasably engage with the at least one dimple to releasably engage the collar to the sink flange.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 28, 2012Publication date: July 19, 2012Applicant: Emerson Electric Co.Inventors: Steven P. Hanson, Thomas R. Berger, Jerry G. Ryder

Publication number: 20080301871Abstract: A food waste disposer mounting assembly uses a stainless steel sink-flange with a screw-on collar system as a primary mounting system to a sink. By connecting the stainless steel sink-flange with a bayonet locking reed collar and screw-on nut collar, a vibration and sound transmission path to the sink is both reduced and rendered indirect. Incorporation of reed switches with a stopper and magnets can modify the unit for use as a batch-feed disposer.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 5, 2008Publication date: December 11, 2008Applicant: Emerson Electric Co.Inventors: Steven P. Hanson, Thomas R. Berger, Jerry G. Ryder

Patent number: 6905360Abstract: A quick connect plug for electrically connecting and mechanically attaching a power cord to an appliance, such as a disposer, is disclosed. The plug is connected to an end of the power cord. In one embodiment, the plug houses push-in terminals, which are electrically connected to first and second wires of the power cord. A first portion of the plug defines openings to receive leads from the disposer, which electrically connect to the push-in terminals housed in the plug. The first portion positions through an aperture defined in a metal portion or lower end frame of the disposer. A plurality of tabs disposed about the first portion engage an inside surface of the lower end frame of the disposer. A second portion of the plug is connected to the cord and defines a shoulder with the first portion. A conductive ring is disposed on the shoulder and is electrically connected to the ground wire of the power cord. The conductive ring contacts the metal frame of the disposer.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2003Date of Patent: June 14, 2005Assignee: Emerson Electric Co.Inventors: Thomas R Berger, Jerry G Ryder
