  • Publication number: 20080058863
Abstract: An applicator/dispenser assembly for dispensing and/or applying an adhesive material comprises: a first body portion and a second body portion, at least one of the first and second body portions being movable relative to the other of the first and second body portions; a cavity in at least one of the first and second body portions; and a piercing or breaking member arranged on one of the first and second body portions. Movement of one of the first and second body portions relative to the other of the first and second body portions moves the piercing or breaking member into the cavity. When a container of adhesive material is at least partially disposed within the cavity, movement of one of the first and second body portions relative to the other moves the piercing or breaking member to rupture the container for dispensing and/or applying the adhesive material.

  • Publication number: 20070078207
Abstract: A stabilized adhesive composition is provided including one or more polymerizable cyanoacrylate monomers, a first free radical stabilizer in a stabilization effective amount, and a second free radical stabilizer in a stabilization effective amount. The free radical stabilizers are selected to minimize mutagenicity in the composition and are used in amounts which provide adequate stabilization for long term storage while reducing disadvantageous effects of the free radical stabilizers. The stabilized adhesive composition further may include a first anionic stabilizer comprising a vapor phase anionic stabilizer and a second anionic stabilizer comprising a liquid phase anionic stabilizer. The stabilized adhesive composition may also include or be used with a polymerization initiator. Methods for the application of the stabilized adhesive compositions to living tissue are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6743858
Abstract: A method of making a sterile adhesive composition includes placing a mixture of a polymerizable adhesive monomer and a thickening agent in a container, sealing the container, and sterilizing the mixture and the container. The method provides superior viscosity for the monomer composition. An adhesive composition includes 2-octyl cyanoacrylate and at least one thickener. The sterile adhesive composition is particularly useful as a medical adhesive and can comprise 1,1-disubstituted ethylene monomers, such as &agr;-cyanoacrylates.

  • Patent number: 6637967
Abstract: An article of manufacture for dispensing an adhesive material, such as a synthetic or semi-synthetic polymerizable or cross-linkable monomer material, includes a container body, and a porous applicator tip having a proximal end that is attached to the container body, and a distal end located away from the container body, wherein the adhesive material is located in the container body in a non-contacting relationship with the applicator tip prior to dispensing the material. A flow pattern of the adhesive material within or on the applicator tip is controlled by providing one or more cuts in the applicator tip to alter flow properties of the adhesive material through the applicator tip.

  • Patent number: 6607631
Abstract: A polymerizable monomer adhesive composition includes a 1,1-disubstituted ethylene monomer and at least one slip additive, where the slip additive causes a polymer film formed from the monomer to have a lower coefficient of friction than in an absence of the slip additive. The slip additive can be selected from, inter alia, fluorinated monomers or polymers, fluorinated additives, siloxane-containing monomers or polymers, siloxane-containing additives, fluorinated siloxanes, and long chain fatty acid esters. The slip additive can also form a second phase in a resultant polymer film, where the second phase is soluble in the monomer but is insoluble or substantially insoluble in the polymer.
