Abstract: A trocar assembly includes a trocar housing that defines a working chamber, and a cannula having opposing proximal and distal ends and defining a lumen that extends between the proximal and distal ends. One or more windows are defined in the cannula at or near the distal end, and one or more compliant deflection devices are arranged at or near the distal end and at least partially receivable within the one or more windows. Each compliant deflection device includes a radial biasing member that extends radially inward toward a centerline of the cannula.

Abstract: A surgical severing and stapling instrument, suitable for laparoscopic and endoscopic clinical procedures, clamps tissue within an end effector of an elongate channel pivotally opposed by an anvil. An E-beam firing bar moves distally through the clamped end effector to sever tissue and to drive staples on each side of the cut. The E-beam firing bar affirmatively spaces the anvil from the elongate channel to assure properly formed closed staples, especially when an amount of tissue is clamped that is inadequate to space the end effector. In particular, an upper pin of the firing bar longitudinally moves through an anvil slot and a channel slot is captured between a lower cap and a middle pin of the firing bar to assure a minimum spacing. Forming the E-beam from a thickened distal portion and a thinned proximal strip enhances manufacturability and facilitates use in such articulating surgical instruments.

Abstract: A storage arrangement for storing tape cassettes, eight track tape cartridges and the like, in which a case means is provided having walls defining a storage volume therebetween. A carousel comprising a pair of disc means is rotatably mounted in the storage volume and is supported by the side walls of the case means. The pair of disc means each have a plurality of cartridge holding means for retaining a plurality of the cartridges between the pair of disc means in a preselected array and in separate cartridge holding sections. The pair of disc means are maintained in a spaced apart relationship by a hub means and the disc means and hub means rotate relative to the case means about a horizontal axis. Brake means are provided intermediate the disc means and the case means to provide a predetermined frictional force therebetween.

Abstract: A package opening arrangement comprised of a body member having a lower portion and an upper portion spaced a predetermined distance therefrom and an end portion coupling first ends of the upper portion and the lower portion together. The upper portion overlies the lower portion and a section thereof is substantially coextensive with the lower portion. The second end of the upper portion is provided with a package cutting means which may be a point. Limit means are provided on the lower portion for limiting the insertion of the second end of the upper portion into the package to be opened.
