  • Patent number: 6801612
Abstract: Provided is a system and method for consolidating telephone calls from more than one individual to a single, remote conference call provider through a telephone switch such that the multiple calls utilize a single telephone connection between the individuals' location and the conference call provider. A private branch exchange (PBX) or other type of switch detects attempts by multiple local callers to reach a designated conference call number and multiplexes those calls. In one embodiment, at least one of the conference call participants is coupled to the switch via a network, such as the Internet, using an Internet protocol (IP) telephone connection.

  • Patent number: 6577963
Abstract: In a system, method and program for monitoring and control of a circuit having a circuit breaker, circuit profile information characterizing the circuit is used to determine a reset strategy for resetting of the circuit breaker when it becomes tripped. The circuit profile information may include an identification of any devices connected along the circuit, and may further include device profile information characterizing such devices. An embodiment of the method includes detecting that the circuit breaker has tripped, receiving device profile information from a device connected along the circuit, using the device profile information to formulate a reset strategy for the circuit breaker, and sending a command as part of implementing the reset strategy. An embodiment of the system includes a system controller operably coupled to the circuit and the circuit breaker, where the system controller is adapted to use circuit profile information to determine a reset strategy.

  • Patent number: 5956508
Abstract: A data processing system for managing a plurality of objects within said data processing system, the distributed data processing system having an object oriented environment. A container object is created for holding objects and a plurality of objects is detected within the data processing system. A filter object is associated with the container object, wherein the filter object receives the plurality of objects within the data processing system and the filter object passes selected ones of the plurality of objects to the container object. The data processing system is periodically monitored to detect changes in the plurality of objects. The container object is automatically updated using the filter object to pass selected ones of the plurality of objects to the container object in response to monitoring the data processing system, wherein the container object is automatically updated.

  • Patent number: 5533184
Abstract: A computer system for dynamically generating a set of display panels which will provide a user friendly interactive user interface for I/O as the steps in an application program requiring user interaction are carried out. The system involves a PC or workstation display having a display management system providing a set of rules and constraints governing the layout of each screen panel. The system stores data sufficient to support each of a plurality of basic screen panels. As the program proceeds and each of the program steps is carried out, the system modifies the data supporting a selected one of the basic panels to provide the modified screen panel required for the user interface with respect to each particular application program step. The modification of each particular screen panel is based at least in part on data entered into the system through interfaces provided by the screen panel required for previous steps in the application program.

  • Patent number: 5416903
Abstract: A system and method for improved user interface screen generation for an application program which supports multilingual users. Dynamic generation of subscreens, or subpanels, which conform to a given country's language requirements is provided. These subscreens support both input and output operations between an application program and user of a data processing system. The system and method further provide improved conveyance of information between the person(s) responsible for the initial user interface screen or panel layout in the initial language, and the person(s) responsible for translating the language specific portion of this screen layout into a subsequent language. Information containing specific comments pertaining to a given field or submenu to be displayed, and its associated text, can be appended to the file containing the text to be displayed.

  • Patent number: 5347627
Abstract: A method of defining, creating, or editing a graphical user interface panel. According to the method, a user opens a graphical user interface source code file. This source code file contains an entry for the user interface panel and for each object, as an icon, an action bar, or the like, within the panel. The object entries include the size and location of the object. The user edits the source code file in a dynamic sizing, What You See Is What You Get environment. A compiler compiles the graphical user interface source code file to form a graphical user interface object code file. The compiler also updates the size and location object entries of each graphical object, dynamically sizing the size and location object entries.

  • Patent number: 5333256
Abstract: An application or terminal emulation program, which is being executed on an information processing system, is represented by the display of a first icon on a display device. If during the execution of the application or terminal emulation program, a virtual display buffer associated with the application program, is updated, a second icon is displayed on the display device to indicate to a user of the system that a change in the status of the program has occurred.

  • Patent number: 5251291
Abstract: A method for moving data between sessions on a workstation having a video display. A source session having data in protected and unprotected fields is copied to storage through a clipboard media. Pasting of data from the clipboard into unprotected fields of a destination session is accomplished selectively. Pasting is selectively concluded based upon a comparison of source protected fields with corresponding destination protected fields, where the workstation operator is notified of mismatches and responds accordingly.

  • Patent number: 4833626
Abstract: A method of improving printer throughput by selecting a print velocity based on the characteristics of a line to be printed. Incorporated into an application program are all available printing velocities to be used for printing. As each line to be printed is buffered, it is analyzed. Based on the analysis, an optimum velocity is selected by the program for causing a printing of the line.

  • Patent number: 4789949
Abstract: A method of modifying a graphics data stream for improving printer throughput. The data stream is scanned and nulls preceding printable data are converted to text spaces. Text spaces are recognized by the printer to cause a printhead included in the printer to move directly to the first printable data position rather than homing first.

  • Patent number: 4740093
Abstract: A method of determining character width for proportional spacing printing based on information contained in a dot pattern table. For a selected character, the character dot pattern in the table is analyzed to determine leading blanks and the actual character width. To obtain an overall width for printing, a number of trailing blanks equal to the number of leading blanks is added to the number of leading blanks and the actual character width. As such, a character suitable for proportional spacing printing is in effect built.

  • Patent number: 4721401
Abstract: A method of reducing the need for a reverse indexing capability during multi-pass printing. In environments permitting narrow line spacings, requiring multiple passes to print a line, and where platen indexing is by full head height increments, indexing for completing printing for one line may result in an overshooting of a subsequent print line. Without reverse indexing capabilities, the subsequent line cannot be printed at a proper location or on the subsequent print line. A solution to reduce the occurrence of this problem is to index the platen only to the extent necessary to complete printing of a line on a subsequent pass.
