  • Patent number: 11337605
Abstract: Embodiments relate to a system for generating simulated eye movements and eye responses related to concussion symptoms for training medical practitioners. The system includes a computer device with a display that displays the pair of simulated eyes. Scenarios are generated and executed, in which simulated eye movements and responses to external stimuli are representative of typical symptoms associated with having a concussion. A user (e.g., medical trainee or medical trainer) provides external inputs e.g., voice commands, stylus movements, etc.) and assess eye movements provided by the scenarios and eye responses to the external inputs.

  • Patent number: 11074832
Abstract: A medical simulator having a heat exchanger configured to transfer heat from electronics and other components of the medical simulator to simulated blood of a simulated vascular system of the medical simulator. The heated simulated blood can be circulated throughout the simulated vascular system to provide more realistic training for medical practitioners by increasing the temperature of the skin of the medical simulator to a more realistic temperature. Circulating the heated simulated blood can also serve to cool the electronics and other components, while simultaneously transferring the heat out from the vascular system into an environment outside of the medical simulator.

  • Publication number: 20190356166
Abstract: Embodiments relate to a medical simulator system configured to be powered and/or charged via induction technology. The medical simulator system includes a medical simulator having a simulator induction coil in connection with electrical circuitry and/or a power supply. The system also includes a charging station induction coil. The charging station may be stationary or mobile. When the simulator induction coil is placed proximate the charging station induction coil, or vice versa, inductive coupling causes a voltage to be generated in the simulator induction coil. This voltage is used to provide electrical power to the electrical circuitry and/or charge the power supply.

  • Publication number: 20060233551
Abstract: The device includes a first fiber optic transmitter (FOT) to receive a millimeter wave (MMW) signal and to generate a multiple sideband optical signal, and a second FOT to generate a second optical signal, from a reference signal. • Publication number: 20060204162
Abstract: An electro-optical device includes an amplifier having an input receiving a data signal, a crossing adjustment input, and an output. The device includes a light source and a Mach-Zehnder modulator having a first input coupled to the output of the amplifier, an optical input coupled to the laser, a bias input, and an optical output. A bias circuit is coupled to the bias input of the Mach-Zehnder modulator and preferably includes a pilot signal generator connected to the crossing adjustment input of the amplifier, and a feedback circuit coupled between the optical output and bias input of the Mach-Zehnder modulator and coupled to the pilot signal generator. The bias circuit applies the pilot signal to the crossing adjust input of the amplifier which forces the modulator to the correct bias point for duobinary transmission. Modulation on +1 and ?1 levels is eliminated, and only the 0 level is modulated. The feedback loop forces modulated portion of the waveform to null bias.

  • Publication number: 20060170293
Abstract: The apparatus for converting side-to-side to rotational motion for a workpiece includes a spring assembly with a movable base mounting element which is driven in a slightly arcuate reciprocal side-to-side motion and a fixed mounting element spaced apart from the base element and mounted in the appliance so that it does not rotate or move in operation of the apparatus. A spring member, such as two planar leaf springs positioned at an angle to each other, is mounted between the movable base element and the fixed mounting element. A drive shaft member extends from the movable base element through the fixed mounting element and beyond. A workpiece such as a brushhead is mounted on the distal end of the drive shaft. The spring member is configured so that it is substantially less resistant to twisting action than bending action, such that the side-to-side motion of the base element results in rotation of the workpiece.

  • Publication number: 20050047779
Abstract: An adaptive system composed of an adjustable inverse distortion operator or structure compensates for dispersive distortion in a fiber optic channel. Parameters of the inverse distortion operator are automatically estimated and updated in accordance with minimizing some cost function of an error signal obtained by differentially combining the output of the inverse distortion operator with downstream decision values or with an undistorted training signal. Undistorted training signals may be derived from bit patterns (e.g., preamble) expressly transmitted for the purpose of adjusting the compensation system or from other non-training patterns known to be embedded in the received signal from the transmitter.

  • Publication number: 20050047802
Abstract: An adaptive infinite impulse response (IIR) filter compensates for dispersive distortion in a fiber optic channel. The weighting coefficients of the IIR filter are updated in accordance with an error signal obtained by differentially combining the output of the IIR filter with downstream decision values or with an undistorted training signal. Undistorted training signals may be derived from training patterns (e.g., preamble) expressly transmitted for the purpose by the upstream transmitter, or from non-training, but known or predictable patterns transmitted by the upstream transmitter.

  • Patent number: 6157752
Abstract: The present invention provides a fiber optic link utilizing asymmetric homodyne modulation and balanced detection to achieve a very high dynamic range. The link uses a Mach Zehnder Modulator to generate a double-sideband suppressed-carrier signal from a laser light signal of a carrier frequency and a modulating signal at a modulating frequency. The laser light signal is phase shifted and injected into the double-sideband suppressed-carrier signal. Two signals are generated wherein the fundamental components are out-of-phase. The two signals are input to a balanced receiver wherein the one signal is subtracted from the other, resulting in the fundamental components adding, thereby providing an improved fundamental signal.
