Abstract: Disclosed is a platelet additive solution (PAS) comprising a viscosity increasing agent. The use of a PAS comprising such a viscosity increasing agent, especially at concentrations effective to achieve a viscosity similar to that of blood plasma, promotes platelet recovery during extraction from pooled buffy coats and provides for easier platelet production by maintaining the red cell/platelet-rich-supernatant interface.

Abstract: This invention relates to a method for topically treating dermal disorders employing a composition comprising a mixture of urea and a safe and effective amount of an alkyl urea in a therapeutically effective ratio. The urea and alkyl urea are blended with a carrier suitable for topical application to dermal tissues. The carrier is in the form of an aqueous liquid, a gel, a cream, a foam, a liposome, a nonaqueous liquid, a nonaqueous gel, or a nonaqueous cream.

Abstract: A method for preparing a nonaqueous ascorbic acid composition in an alcohol solvent comprising ascorbic acid, a solubilization enhancer, and an oleaginous skin protectant is described. The amount of ascorbic acid dissolved in the nonaqueous composition in the presence of the solubilization enhancer is greater than the amount of ascorbic acid that would be soluble in the solvent in the absence of the solubilization enhancer. A nonaqueous composition comprises the dissolved ascorbic acid, solubilization enhancer, and homogenized oleaginous skin protectant.

Abstract: A method for dissolving ascorbic acid in a nonaqueous alcohol solvent using a solubilization enhancer is described. The amount of ascorbic acid solubilized in the nonaqueous alcohol solvent containing the solubilization enhancer is greater than the amount of ascorbic acid that would be soluble in the nonaqueous alcohol solvent without the solubilization enhancer. A stable ascorbic acid composition comprising a mixture of the dissolved ascorbic acid and solubilization enhancer is also disclosed.
