  • Publication number: 20040053098
Abstract: An electrochemical cell that generates electricity, comprising gas diffusion electrodes and a bipolar membrane electrolyte, is disclosed. The cell may further comprise electrocatalysts. Also disclosed is a process using the cell in the synthesis of chemicals, particularly hydrogen peroxide.
    Type: Application
    Filed: September 19, 2003
    Publication date: March 18, 2004
Inventors: David Jorge Schiffrin, Kyoesti Eero Antero Kontturi, Richard John Nichols, Jerzy Paprotny
  • Patent number: 5965690
Abstract: Described herein are polyesters and polyamides which contain repeat units derived from novel dicarboxylic acids comprising arylene groups having ortho ethers substituted thereon. Also disclosed are novel compounds from which these polymers can be made. The polymers are especially useful for molding resins and coatings.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 14, 1997
Date of Patent: October 12, 1999
    Assignee: University of Liverpool
Inventors: Geoffrey Charles Eastmond, Jerzy Paprotny

  • Patent number: 5675020
Abstract: Disclosed herein are novel poly(imide-ethers) containing ortho substitution in the main chain of the polymer. These polymers are made from novel aromatic bis-carboxylic anhydrides which contain two ether groups attached to an aromatic ring in ortho positions to each other. The polymers are particularly useful for films, fibers and encapsulation, as well as thermoplastics.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 15, 1995
Date of Patent: October 7, 1997
    Assignee: The University of Liverpool

  • Patent number: 4904272
Abstract: A fibrous polyurethane medical prosthesis wherein the polyurethane has been at least partially crosslinked with a haloalkylisocyanate.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 22, 1988
Date of Patent: February 27, 1990
    Assignee: Ethicon, Inc.
Inventors: Ian P. Middleton, Jerzy Paprotny
  • Patent number: 4798607
Abstract: A process is disclosed for producing a medical prosthesis by forming the prosthesis from an uncrosslinked polyurethane and then at least partially crosslinking the polyurethane with a vaporizable halo alkylisocyanate. The haloalkylisocyanate (e.g. chloromethylisocyanate) is reacted with the uncrosslinked polyurethane at a temperature which will not degrade or soften the polyurethane, (in its uncrosslinked form) in order to crosslink the polyurethane.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 15, 1987
Date of Patent: January 17, 1989
Inventors: Ian P. Middleton, Jerzy Paprotny
