    Abstract: A needle covering system for a needle of a syringe. A boot of the system defines a contaminant-proof pocket for the needle. A sealing ring portion of the boot forms a seal with a support portion of the syringe. A body of the boot is collapsible to allow movement of a needle pierceable end portion of the boot toward the sealing ring portion for a tip of the needle to pass through the boot end portion for an injection. A securement collar of the system presses the sealing ring against the support portion of the syringe and is a remnant portion of a protective shell.

    Abstract: A cap assembly mountable to a rigid shield around a needle of a syringe. The cap assembly includes a gripper component and a base cap. The gripper component includes a support frame and a liner that is deformable when sandwiched between the support frame and the rigid shield. When the base cap is installed to the gripper component during manufacture, and with the rigid shield disposed in a bore of the gripper component in any rotational orientation relative thereto, the liner is held by the support frame so as to be deformed against and grip the rigid shield for shield removal purposes so as to allow for removal of the rigid shield from around the needle.

    Abstract: A delay mechanism for an automatic injection device having a housing and a medication filled syringe. The delay mechanism includes a shuttle, a follower, a damping compound, at least one biasing member, and a biased plunger element. When moved in the device housing from a first location to a second location, the biased plunger element is adapted to drive the syringe piston within syringe barrel to force medication through the syringe needle for an injection. The follower, when the plunger element is so moved, is freed to move, under urging of the at least one biasing member, from a first position on the housing toward a second position to thereby move the shuttle for retracting the syringe needle into the housing after injection. The damping compound dampens or slows rotation of the follower as the follower moves from the first position toward the second position.

    Abstract: A trigger assembly for an automatic injection device which by its operation releases a biased element of the device for movement. The trigger assembly includes a button pressable by a user, and a lock member. Prior to the button being plunged, a blocking element on the button is abutted by a button-engaging surface of the lock member to prevent lock member rotation, thereby allowing an engagement surface on the lock member to remain in engagement with an engagement surface of the biased element so as to restrain motion of the biased element. When the button is plunged, the blocking surface moves clear of the button-engaging surface to allow the lock member to rotate, during which rotation the engagement surfaces disengage to release the biased element for movement.
