  • Patent number: 5983098
Abstract: A dual-mode network access point device for enabling a user to select between at least two telecommunication service providers using the user's existing telecommunications wiring. The device includes a wireless interface circuit adapted for coupling one or more antennas which are used for transmitting signals to and receiving signals from a wireless service provider and a switching circuit for selectively coupling a first telecommunication device between a wireline service provider and the wireless interface circuit is provided in the device. The device further includes a controller circuit which enables the switching circuit automatically in response to an incoming call and on command to select either the wireline service provider or the wireless interface circuit.

  • Patent number: 5983080
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for generating voice signals for a wireless communication station. The wireless communications stations includes a receiver, a signal strength measuring device, a filter and a noise generator. The receiver receives a digitally modulated radio voice signal and the signal strength measuring device measures a signal strength of the received radio voice signal. The filter removes noise signals present with the received radio voice signal when the signal strength is below a predetermined threshold, and the a noise generator generates a noise signal for combination with the received voice signal.

  • Patent number: 5956631
Abstract: A telephone communication system addresses calls to a particular subscriber via both a wired terminal and through the wired terminal by radio to a wireless communicator device. The wired terminal is hard wired to a telephone network and the wireless device is coupled by radio to the wired terminal which is in turn hardwired to the telephone network. Both the wired terminal and the wireless communicator ring in response to an incoming call and the call may be answered by the subscriber via either device.

  • Patent number: 5930247
Abstract: Termination equipment for a WorldNet.TM. wireless network receives packet data from a data terminal of a DirecTV.TM. Settop Box. This data is directed to a recipient through a router and transmitted by wireless or coax LAN to customer premises data equipment. Replies to the network by customer premises equipment are transmitted by wireless or coax LAN to the router to a CDPD radio modem for transmission, via CDPD, to a remote termination connected to the network.

  • Patent number: 5894478
Abstract: The present invention encompasses an apparatus and method for supporting multiple wireless data communication networks between a wireless communications device and a fixed communications device or another wireless communications device. Two network elements compose the physical apparatus, a protocol converter and a router. Upon receiving packet data from a fixed communications device, a router will locate a destination wireless communications device. The router will then convert the packet data to a format usable by the wireless data network that the wireless communications device is currently using for wireless access. After conversion, the router will perform actual transmission of the packet data to the correct destination wireless network. Once the converted packet data is received by the wireless network base station, it will be transmitted via RF to the destination wireless communications device.

  • Patent number: 5859618
Abstract: An antenna structure includes a plurality of vertical directed antennas mounted on an insulated cylindrical substrate. A parabolic reflecting antenna is mounted at one end of the cylindrical substrate cavity and a dielectric lens admits radiation through the cylindrical cavity to the parabolic reflector. Optical detectors are located on the cylindrical substrate periphery and exposed to optical signals through an InfraRed (IR) optical filter.

  • Patent number: 5724665
Abstract: An intelligent wireless communication base station provides communication between individual base stations over an RF radio channel. A control unit in each base station utilizes this communication to facilitate each base station to gather system data regarding the system arrangement of nearby base stations and to facilitate handovers of mobile wireless personal communicators from one base station to a another base station. This control unit is under stored program control and gathers information concerning set up channels of nearby radio ports, a developed list or table of neighbor base stations and signal strength values of nearby channels. Voice channels may be bridged allowing two personal communicators to communicate with each other through a single base station.

  • Patent number: 5655003
Abstract: A wireless terminal utilizing digital radio processing utilizes stored program control to allow the wireless terminal to operate in a plurality of disposed wireless communication systems. In particular, the digital radio processing with appropriate stored program control operates in a plurality of wireless communication system by selectively and controllably enabling selection of frequency, channel bandwidth, modulation type, channel coding and source coding operational components appropriate to the communication system that the wireless unit is to operate in. A function control enables the wireless terminal to actively seek out and search for availability of wireless communications system in which it may operate.
