Abstract: A carton with a self-locking end closure includes a pair of end flaps connected by fold lines to end walls, and a pair of side flaps connected by fold lines to sidewalls. The end flaps have tapered or notched side edges and an outer edge. The outer edge of each end flap includes two symmetrically positioned notches. Each end flap also includes a pair of locking tabs. The side flaps include a pair of side edges and an outer edge and a pair of hinged locking devices which are symmetrically positioned at predetermined distances from the outer edges. The locking devices include an ear or flap, a cut line defining the ear or flap, a hinge line along which the ear or flap rotates, and a tab adjacent the ear. The end flaps are foldable against the side flaps, permitting the locking tabs of the end flaps to engage the locking devices of the side flaps to lock the end closure of the carton.
